Overview:
The ideology of our project(Self Defense Simulation Using Virtual Reality) is to empower each and every person of our society to FIGHT BACK and be the saviour of their own self. It is a simulation based project where people from all over the world can get a hands on experience of learning how to defend themselves without being physically hurt. The real world simulation through high end Head Mounted Displays(HMD) and realistic environment creation through unity 3D interface will help these people learn the basic self defense moves in a very fun and interactive session. Through this project we look forward to boost the confidence of women to fight back for their own self, spread awareness in children of self-defense and protect the people of our society from harassment, rape, abduction , molestation and all kind of heinous and unlawful acts.
Intellectual Merit:
The proposed project demonstrates how the society and its people lack knowledge of self defense and the basic rules and regulations that apply on different self defense scenarios.Furthermore it will help enable men and especially women towards empowerment and will give them the confidence that they need to live a life free from any kind of fears.The knowledge from this project will expand to multiple branches such as trauma therapies, ethics training , public place etiquettes and many more.
Broader Impact:
Self Defense Simulation Using Virtual Reality have the potential to impact millions of life all over the world. Victims of physical health , pyschologic trauma , accidents and harassment can maneuver their way out back to the healthy and sound life through self defense simulation.
Descripton:
Our project idea will be specifying the need of our society and will be targeted to basic self-defense training of different individuals. In basic self-defense training there will be NO weaponry training involved. Training techniques will be related to hand to hand combat, hit-points identification and for children a scenario of a park will be given to teach them to whom they should trust and talk if a stranger is calling them or a known person (parent, siblings, teachers). To complete the project we have broken it down to different phases and modules through which we will be achieving different goals and milestones over the timeline.
Literature Review (Phase 1)
In this phase all the research work and technologies that needs to be learned will be conducted and an agile approach will be taken through which we will gather the requirements and plan future events along with the feedback after every sprint.
Training Scenario(Phase 2)
Once all the learning is completed which include C# scripting and Unity3D development along with Oculus Rift controller handling, we will start working on the training scenario where the user will be able to practice the newly learned moves on a dummy mannequin in the training environment which will look similar to a Taekwondo Dojo.
Street Scenario (Phase 3)
The resources from training scenario will be reused here in the street scenario where we will be creating a real life scenario of an empty street at night . In this scenario we will portray a victim being attacked / harassed by the assailant and then the victim who will be our user will have to perform the previously learned moves at the right time to avoid the dangerous situation at hand and to avoid getting hurt.
Park Scenario (Phase 4)
In this Phase we will be incorporating children , since children awareness plays a very crucial part in their behavioural education. In this scenario a park will be portrayed with children playing along with some stranger and relatives , and there will be a scene in which the children have to identify when a stranger is calling and when a relative is calling to him/her.If the children identify the stranger then he will have to decide wether he/she should go to the stranger or not and on not going to the stranger will give the children different kind of rewards.

Technical Details of Final Deliverables:
A standalone application for windows platform will be delivered which can be run on any device considering that it fulfills the hardware requirements that are needed.
To completely have the interactivity the user will be needing an Oculus Rift head mounted display and Oculus Rift controllers through which he can interact with the environment and enjoy the 360 Degree view.
