Project Summary

This application is all about Speech To Speech (STS), Speech To Text (STT), and Text To Text (TTT) translation with multiple languages. The global, borderless economy has made it critically important for speakers of different languages to be able to communicate. Language translation technology – being able to speak and have one’s words translated automatically into the other person’s language – has long been a dream of humankind. So to fulfill the requirements and this unfulfilled dream this project and application is been launching. Language Translation has been selected as one of the ten technologies that will change the world. There are especially high hopes in Japan for a language translation system that can automatically translate one’s everyday speech and text as the use of Japanese has become increasingly international, so such technology would be a great boon to the nation. The beneficiary of this application would be the global audience, impaired disabled people, foreigners, travelers, students who are planning to study abroad, especially sports industry where sportsmen play different matches in foreign countries, businessmen and in the other countless organizations, etc. The overall features of this application would be important and unique from all the other applications. Language translation would allow the user for any language selection in which the output voice is required. Apart from this, Speech to Text translation feature would help the users, but this would help impaired disabled people as well and Text to Text translation would ease up the documentation. Moreover, this application would have the feature of translation in multiple languages.

Project Objectives

Nowadays, most language translation applications and services use a three-step process. The first step is the speech to text translation using speech recognition. This is followed by text-to-text language translation and finally, the text is synthesized into speech. As the availability of data and computing power improved, each of these individual steps advanced over time. Although the progress was significant, there was always error associated with the first translation step in terms of various factors such as tone recognition of the speech, accent, etc. The error further propagated and quite often deteriorated as it went down the translation steps. This gave birth to ongoing building research on indirect speech-to-speech translation without relying on text translations. This project makes use of a simpler Sequence-to-Sequence (STS) encoder-decoder LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory network using spectrograms as input to examine the possibility of direct language translations in audio form. However, among all the other applications this application would allow the user to select between Speech to text module as well as Speech to Speech translation module using the latest features and Google API under one application. The need for this application arises from the inability of dictionaries and human translators to suit the needs for better communication. In this situation, the application proposed will suffice the purpose reasonably well and minimize the communication inefficiencies all over the globe.

Our application would help users all over the globe to save a good amount of time by having all the translation features under one umbrella. Some functionality of this application are listed:

Benefits of the Project

There are numerous benefits of this application. Most importantly it would remove the language barrier. Moreover, there would be a paperless environment, this application would be easy to use, just need a smartphone. Impaired disabled people can get benefit from this as well, in the case if somebody is blind and cannot see they can at least listen and guide accordingly, Business deals can be carried out successfully because of no language barrier. However, this application would make the trips and vacations easy for foreigners those who are traveling to different countries. There are in particular excessive hopes worldwide for a language translation gadget that can robotic-ally translate one’s normal speech as it has to turn out to be more and more international, so such Language translation generation could be a remarkable boon to the nation. Although these steps have progressed on an individual basis over the years, this application aims to develop an indication of concept to produce evidence in support of a unique translation system that might convince be better and faster.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable of the " Language Translation Application" will be an android based application along with a documentation manual having all the technical details of the application. It will be developed in Android studio along with React. The application will be compatible with the Android version.
