In this era of automation, there should have to be a such development of an aerial vehicle that can operate autonomously for target detection and perform a designated task on its own without the runtime guidance of a pilot.

Drones/unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are defined as an aerial vehicle that does not need human intervention. Drones are best known for their use in military operations including the use of weaponized drones for targeted killing, especially in pre-emptive strikes and surveillance at a specific location.

Project Objectives

Our objective is to provide an intelligent system that is placed on board with UAV to replace human factor in flight operations that is called an automatic pilot which controls the altitude, speed heading and can be guided autonomously or remotely and with both as well.

We are going to design an Autonomous Drone that will be used for Observation and Target detection.

Some of the main features include:

  • Aerial photography.
  • Mapping & surveying.
  • Multispectral/thermal/NIR cameras.
  • Crop monitoring.
  • Disaster zone mapping.

Project Implementation Method

Now this is the complete system step of our project the main component is flight controller it is the Pixhawk flight controller which performed the function as autopilot this is the flow diagram of our project. The main component is flight controller which commands all the components which are connected together.  Here RC receiver which is the radio communication receiver which is 2 way connected with radio telemetry which is further connected with computer and radio frequency transmitter if we perform manually setup we simply connect RC receiver with connection and give signal through Radio Frequency transmitter and it is further connected with flight controller. The data from receiver going towards in the flight controller and it gives the duty cycle data to the electronic speed controller which starts the Brushless direct current motor and then propellers start to produce thrust. And power comes towards the battery. Then again flight controller send the signal and commands to the servos which controls the altitude and speed according to the requirement.

Component Integration:

Drones have a large number of components, including:

  • Electronic speed controllers;
  • BLDC Motor;
  • Pixhawk flight controller;
  • GPS module;
  • Battery;
  • Transceiver;
  • Telemetry;
  • Servo Motors;

Benefits of the Project

With the appropriate license, operators can use unmanned aerial vehicles to provide security and surveillance to private companies, sporting events, public gatherings, and other venues. Drones can also gather valuable data during and after natural disasters to aid in security and recovery efforts.

Our project is used for surveillance and mapping.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), popularly known as Drone, is an airborne system or an aircraft operated remotely by a human operator or autonomously by an onboard computer.

Onboard Flight controller Pixhawk:

In order to make the Glider Autonomous, we had to use a Flight Controller, i.e. (Pixhawk).

It has built-in

  • Gyro
  • Accelerometer
  • Compass
  • Barometer

Aurdopilot mission planner:

Mission Planner is a full-featured ground station application for the ArduPilot open source autopilot project.

Mission Planner is a ground control station for Plane, Copter and Rover. It is compatible with Windows only. Mission Planner can be used as a configuration utility or as a dynamic control supplement for your autonomous vehicle.
