This project is designed to enhance safety for the motorcyclist to wear the helmet every time and is anticipated to reduce accident fatalities for two-wheel commuter. The design comprises of the smart helmet which emits signal, the only condition motorbike can be operated. The proposed model is more efficient incorporating continuous monitoring of location, RPM, engine temperature and provides accidental information to family through web server. It will be a solution to the rapidly increasing figures of road accidents over time which is a cause for concern among motorcyclists.
•Obligatory use of helmets tends to reduce the death ratio. Researches depicts that wearing the helmet can prevent fatal injuries by 75%.
•Alertness scheme is imposed, it consists of GPS and WIFI technology which sends the message to the family member at the time of an accident.
•The project focuses on safety and monitoring of bikers.
Our project is divided into two parts:
Helmet Unit:
Helmet Unit consist of two sensors, Touch sensor and Gyro sensor. one microcontroller Arduino Nano and one RF transmitter to send data wirelessly to bike unit.Touch sensor sense weather the helmet is wear by the rider or not and gyro sensor sense the accident of the bike then this data is wirelessly transmitted to bike unit by the using RF transmitter. Helmet unit is powered up by LiPo battery which can be charged by charger or Solar panels.
Bike Unit:
Bike Unit consist of three sensors, RPM sensor Temperature sensor and Location Sensor. One microcontroller Esp8266 which have internal WIFI capability to connect with internet, one Relay module and one RF receiver to receive data from helmet unit.Rpm sensor is used to detect the speed and to measure the distance covered by the rider. Temperature sensor is used to detect the engine temperature for the monitoring of engine working properly and smoothly and Location Sensor is used to locate the rider any time. Relay module is used to control the ignition of bike that is when the rider wears the helmet in only that condition bike turn ON. We have also introduced SMS and Email alert scheme if the accident happens which will be sent to the family member. After then all data is uploaded to the web server for the live monitoring. which can be viewed on mobile application from anywhere which have access to the application. This unit is powered by bike battery.
In helmet unit we used following:
Touch Sensor (ttp223b):This module is ideal for adding touch control.The sensor belongs to the type of capacitive sensor that is based on the principle of detecting the electrical capacity of a capacitorThus the presence of an object creates a capacity that the internal circuits detect, commanding the switching of the output signal.
NRF24L01:The nRF24L01 is a wireless transceiver module, meaning each module can both send as well as receive data. They operate in the frequency of 2.4GHz, which falls under the ISM band and hence it is legal to use in almost all countries for engineering applications. The modules when operated efficiently can cover a distance of 100 meters.
In the Bike unit we used following sensors:
Temp Sensor (Pt100):A Pt100 is a sensor used to measure temperature. It is one type of sensor which falls into a group called Resistance Temperature Detectors or RTD’s. Pt refers to that the sensor is made from Platinum (Pt). 100 refers to that at 0°C sensor has a resistance of 100 ohms (?).
RPM sensor(Hall effect):The Analog Hall Effect Sensor Module uses the 49E sensor to detect North and South pole and relative strength of a magnetic field.The amount of the voltage rise or fall will depend on the magnetic strength of the field.
