Smart helmet include multiple electronic devices and sensors that help users to gather real-time data and assist them in reducing operational risks and improving safety in the long run. These helmets are rapidly gaining popularity among bicyclists and motorcyclists for enhanced security, safety, and comfort.A smart helmet is a type of protective headgear used by the rider which makes bike driving safer than before.
The main purpose of this helmet is to provide safety for the rider. This can be implemented by using advanced features like alcohol detection, accident identification, location tracking, use as a hands free device, fall detection. In case of an accident it will send a message through GSM along with location with the help of GPS module to the registered numbers of relatives or friends. This ensures that the victims get proper and prompt medical attention, if he met with an accident.
The distinctive utility of project is the helmet is designed in a such way that it has an ultrasonic sensor which sense objects and turn on the camera which will record video for about few minutes, in case of accident a proof will be captured how the accident occur.
The main objectives of the project are as follow:
The proposed system mainly focuses on avoidance of drunken driving and restricts to wear helmet compulsory which results in Avoidance in accident and SMS will be sent in case of an accident. Now a days according to Government rules smart helmet will be hopefully in use like normal helmet.
The proposed system components include accident detection, recording of the accident, SMS carrying accident details, real-time tracking and solar panel in case of low battery. These all components are the backbone of this helmet known as “IOT based Smart Helmet for Accident Detection”.
Following are the sensors which contribute towards implementation method:
Smart Helmet unit consist of Microcontroller, Ultra Sonic sensor, Pressure sensor, Camera, Solar Panel, Buzzer, GSM modem, GPS modem, Bluetooth sensor, Alcohol sensor, Power supply. The whole system is controlled by Microcontroller unit. Different functions are controlled by using sensors. The Microcontroller is placed in the helmet unit. The inputs from different sensors are given to Microcontroller unit and which is analyzed by the Microcontroller.
