Project Summary

Pakistan is enriched with one of the natural resource "coal" that why we mostly depend on coal, some areas of Pakistan heavily produces coal. Coal mining is a dangerous profession, in Pakistan, several people die while working inside a coal mine due to several reasons. 
We are proposing an idea of a robot that outcome many problems and assists coal miners in the mine during their operation. This robot is equipped with multiple sensors, like gas, temp, humidity, etc. also it has dual communication which helps miners to get connect with the base command. To prevent any kind of damage to miners. This Robot has abilities like it can enter in mine before the miners to check the conditions, making sure that is suitable for the miners to enter the mine. In case of catastrophe, they may set the priority to retain maximum life back from a coal mine. This robot has powers such as entering the mine before the miners to inspect the conditions and ensure that the mine is safe for the miners to enter. In the event of a disaster, they may prioritise reclaiming as much life as possible from a coal mine.

Project Objectives

Our motive/objective for this project are given as belows;

  • Minimize accidents in coal mines.
  • Prevent deaths in coal mines.
  • Building up a stable connection with miners and base camp while mining coal.
  • To reduce the fire chance by methane gas through hydroxyl radical.
  • To provide direct communication between the control room and workers
  • To provide more protection to all components for proper function
  • The main objective of this project is to save the workers' life and health
  • Action in time to protect the miner
  • To reduce the cost of miner's safety system
  • Government should set safety and monitoring rules for the mining companies

Project Implementation Method

The system implementation process of this project is defined below;

  • Selection and purchasing components.
  • Testing each component, to make sure they are performing as they are described.
  • Designing a prototype structure.
  • Programming microcontroller.
  • Interfacing hardware with microcontroller.
  • Assembly the robot.
  • Finalizing and testing.

Benefits of the Project

The benefits of the project are described below;

  • Directly benefiting Pakistan through preventing mine incidents which causes finical demaged to miners and sometimes these can be fatal.
  •  Live monitoring the operatioin in the mine.
  • Dual communication, enbling miners and base camp to communicated with each another.
  • The project has ability to brake down methane gas
  • It has gps tracker to find out the robot location.It has mini cam to see the tunnel view.
  • It is supported with mic and speaker for communication and streaming.
  • It has a remote controller for controlling the robot around 30m.
  • It  can use practically in coal mines.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The technical details of this project are as given;

  • This robot works in the combination of two microcontrollers each dedicated to its functions. This robot is equipped with multiple sensors like temp, humid, gas, etc, also has a camera to monitor the mine and miners' status from the base camp. If the robot detects high temperature in the mine or increasing levels of methane gas in the mine it will send an alert to moners as well as to base camp, so they will be prepared and miners can evacuate from mine in time preventing any kind of damaged.
  • The camera in the robot will monitor the mine via wifi.
  • •The  function of project starts when the sensors pass signal to microcontroller
  • The microcontroller transfer signal/instruction to control room and it also takes decision to defend the hazards
  • The special designed of robot will be helpful to move inside the mine and it provide more safety to all sensors which installed on robot
  • In this project  microcontroller can easily transfer  data around 30 meters and we can increase the range as per need The backup power of monitoring and communication is around 7 hours and power backup for robot movement is 8 hours
