This study integrated geographic information systems (GIS), location-based services (LBS), mobile augmented reality (MAR), and information related to corporate mobile marketing to create an app for tourists using Android and iPhone systems. The proposed system provides an intuitive information interface capable of augmenting one’s experience in the real world with elements of virtual reality, social networking services, and mobile tour guide functions. The goal was to provide tourists with access to information on tourist attractions, local culture, scenery, and shopping. The proposed tourist information system integrates information and communications technology (ICT) with tourism projects promoted by the Tourism Bureau and the Ministry of Economic Affairs as well as mobile marketing provided by 500 local businesses. The integration of a GIS-based computing engine and a corporate management framework ensures the provision of highly accurate mobile marketing information.
The success of tourism in any country depends on the ability of that country to sufficiently develop, manage and market the tourism facilities and activities in that country. Most developing countries depend mainly on tourism for economic growth and diversity. In Serbia, tourism authorities are continuously collecting data on tourist facilities. With the information in different place, some in paper files, some on the computer, it usually takes a long time to respond to a client’s query. An information system that is capable of answering questions about where facilities and resources are located represents enormous benefits
In regards to its function, the application uses a geographic search to perform complex geographic queries in geographic context. It allows the combination of touristic attributes, like object type (e.g., hotel, restaurant, event location, etc.), object name, category of hotels, etc., with geographic criterions like nearness, distance, location (city or province) or objects located inside a selected rectangular map region. The user defines a query by selecting tourist criteria and choosing a geographic area (e.g., map area)
Every interested person in any part of the world can to take a virtual tour in Georgia and other
countries, have a textual and photo/video information about all tourist objects (hotels, food, restaurants,
history, nature, museums, condition of roads, banks, etc.) on the given route;
•Any world tourist organizations (companies and tour-operators) can display its tour on the application
“TravelGIS”.
•National Tourism Administration can improve monitoring, analyses and control systems using GIS;
•Tourist routs into the touch-screen devices (smart-phones, tablets) will exclude possibility of losing the
way and increase the safety of tourists;
•Higher education in tourism will be based on the modern GIS and Mobile technology;
•Awareness of the tourism enterprises, represented in the Mobile GIS maps, will be increased
significantly. This will support their economic development.
