Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryLaw Enforcement and keeping the crimes under control is the prime responsibility of the state and this can be accomplished using the proper monitoring of the factors affecting the law. In Pakistan, we have been dealing with major security concerns that include several aspects ranging from the use of illegal weapon to snatching. However, we lack proper real time monitoring methods and ultimate steps for controlling them. The existing methods in this regard include CCTV cameras, patrolling and calling 911. Surveillance of the system needs large human involvement which also results in the time delay for controlling the problems. There is need to develop a system Using modern technology that can reduce the efforts and time in this field and ultimately can be very helpful in maintaining peace and order in the country.
The goal of this project is to introduce the solution for a real time surveillance of particular area using Unmanned Air Vehicle. A prototype Quadcopter will be designed and manufactured that will be equipped with on board controller responsible for the smooth operation, monitoring the sensors and generating alerts to the rescue system or the focal person. The prototype area will be populated with the Wireless Sensor Nodes (WSNs) that will be sensing any unwanted movement, vibration in the defined area. A WSN will be a complete node with on board controller, sensing module, a GPS and power unit. All the WSNs will be communicating to the controlling unit. If the decision of the controller results in the detection of the danger, the drone will fly to the area which is detected as the threat area. The Quadcopter will start streaming the area using on board camera and provide live detection and monitoring of the area under observation.
Based on the live streaming and detection, preventive and security measures can be taken accordingly.
Project ObjectivesThe main aim of our project includes:
- Designing and development of prototype quadcopter.
- Designing and Development of Wireless Sensor Node for Movement Detection.
- Designing and Development of Wireless Sensor Node for Vibration Detection.
- Designing and Development of real time video monitoring system using Raspberry PI.
- Designing and Development of Real time detection system using Raspberry PI.
- Design and development of IOT Platform for the remote monitoring.
- Design and development of Security alert System.
The project is implemented in the following phases:
- Designing the Quadcopter Architecture and calibrating the firmware for its axis, transmitter and receiver.
- Designing and Development of Wireless Sensor Node for Movement Detection and on board power system.
- Designing and Development of Wireless Sensor Node for Vibration Detection and on board power system.
- Designing and Development of real time video monitoring system using Raspberry PI, PI cam and PI OS.
- Designing and Development of Real time detection system using Raspberry PI, PI cam and PI OS.
- Design and development of IOT Platform for the remote monitoring using Raspberry PI wireless module and Thingspeak channel and Application.
- Design and development of Security Alert System by integrating all the modules in a prototype area.
The project can bring the following benefits to the country:
1) A new and improved way of surveillance system that detects and speedily respond to any unwanted activity in given region.

Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe project will have the following technical deliverables:
- A Quadcopter drone comprising Electronic speed controller, flight controller, transmitter, receiver, power modules and brushless DC motors with Propellers.
- 8 set of Wireless Sensor Nodes for Vibration and Motion Detection using ESP-01 controller, on Board GPS and Power Modules.
- A remote IoT platform (software) setup capable of monitoring and controlling the environment and all the modules
- Raspberry Pi based Live Streaming and Monitoring System.
- Raspberry PI based Live Object Detection System.
- A Prototype file equipped with Wireless Sensor Nodes.
- An integrated Hardware and Software System.
