Project Summary

Physical disability is an extremely serious issue these days, as 10 in every 100 people is affected by some sort of disability such as partial paralysis according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Innovative designs have been made to make it easy for them to travel around in their natural state. A perfect example is the great scientist Stephen Hawking; he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He lived most of his life on an electric wheel chair which he was controlling through wheel remote control. Of course, as an adult, everyone knows how to use a remote and knows which area is safe or not. But in case of child or an infant suffering from same condition by birth, they do not know how to use such a machine or control a machine to move around. Infants only knows to wander around, discover and learn himself by being careless.

Today’s engineers are mostly focused on design solutions for physical disabilities only for adults so that they can move around themselves without anyone’s help. Whereas children are still being pushed around or manually controlled by their parents in their electric wheelchairs. We tend to present a prototype that allows a child to be able to wander around carelessly where ever he likes, just like a normal child. Not only that, we also tend to make it easier for their parents to look after their children and take actions even when they are not around or if their child is in some sort of danger.

Project Objectives

1. Design an electric stroller.

2. Child friendly control.

3. Automatic fall avoidance.

4. Wireless camera streaming on smart phone.

5. Wireless control.

Project Implementation Method

Our project will be devided in 3 Phases:

1. Requirements Engineering

A project of this kind can have numerious features, so we will try to prioritize the important features and devide those features in tasks for developement .

2. Configuration Management

We will setup a system that would allow to track task and help us in debugging and would constrain us to the requriements we have drafted in the previous steps.

3. Testing and Validation

This phase will be devided into 2 phases

A) Hardware Testing

B) Software Testing

after they are done we will validate it.

Benefits of the Project

Having a disability places, you in the world's largest minority group. Currently around 10% of the world's population, or roughly 650 million people, live with a disability. In most of the OECD Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development countries, females have higher rates of disability than males. As the population ages this figure is expected to increase. Some of these people are affected in their middle age and some are suffering through it by birth. Be it an adult or an infant, both of them need some sort of solution that allows them to move around without any help. Electric wheelchairs have been around for a while now, but the flaw in them is that all of them are focused on moving around with simple control. This idea is good if the disabled person is smart enough to control the wheelchair perfectly and knows where he can and can’t go in his current state. But if we switch to a child of 3-7 years, he doesn’t care where he’s going, he just wants to be careless without any supervision since this is very first learning stage. Further innovation is being made in the electric wheel chair industry but only for adults. If in the most basic stage of his life, a child is not able to wander around and uncover the world himself, his whole life gets affected very badly due to it. Our task is to solve all of these problems and put forward a solution.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We plan to develope a child stroller that stands up to the safety standards and since there are no safety standards for robotic stroller we tend to make sure that these standards are viable for most of the common enviromnemts.
