The general aim of this system is to implement a safe and secure plan for public activities so that the security can be enhanced. The purpose of this system is to detect an imminent threat and to provide ways for tackling a suicide bomber so that calamities can be avoided beforehand. The system consists of two gates; the first gate measures the height and weight of the corresponding person using the respective sensors, while the second gate is installed with walk through detection sensors for detecting any suspicious metallic object.

In the first gate; Infrared sensors are used to detect the height of the person inside the gate and a Load cell is used to detect the weight of that person. In the second gate, there is a walk through detection circuit and a foolproof lock chamber for capturing the target inside the cage. A mobile application is used to provide live video transmission along with observing the behavior of each person for any suspicious activity and for generating relevant alert messages. This system is able to get integrated with other systems of the same category. It has the ability to adapt to the changing environments which makes this even more efficient and hence increasing its worth according to the commercial aspect.

This comprises of a product that will have multiple features and will be less expensive as compared to the products already available. Similarly it will be a low budgeted accurate machine. Nonetheless, it will have the capability to get integrated with different security systems making it more efficient and unique. All these factors will establish a good market value of the product as well as encouraging more research in this field.

This project will have a great impact on the general society. It will prove to be a vital product for security management in various areas. Some of the few outcomes are described here. First one being that there will be fewer or no casualties in case of an explosion, which will make this product important. Similarly it will be a more secure plan for public activities like Political events, Fund raisers, Military parades etc.  Cooperation with security agencies will become easier to capture or eliminate a threat. It will serve as a good medium to be utilized in war against Terrorism and the last one being it proved an efficient Foolproof security system making the overall society more protected and secure.

Project Implementation Method

This system has two phases, in the first phase we have infrared sensors on both sides of the gate; one side has the transmitters while the other side has the receivers. An algorithm is developed on the microcontroller that measures the height of the person through the corresponding infrared sensors having LOW logic. Then we have a load cell installed on the base of the gate that measures the weight of the person. Both of these readings are displayed on the LCD.

                  Then in the second phase on which we are still working, we will have a revolving gate having metal detection sensors. The person will pass through this gate, and if an anomaly is detected, an alert message will be generated to the concerned authorities or the gate will get locked and the person won’t be able to pass through this gate. And this lock feature is optional; it can be deactivated if needed.  

               If a person walking through the gate has an abnormal height and weight combination but the system does not show any metal detection, that person’s visual description will be checked by the security cameras installed in that certain area or by the concerned security personnel on duty to counter check the person under surveillance. Similarly in the same situation, a person having normal weight and height but when he walks through the metal detection process, he is marked positive for carrying any type of suspicious metallic object, the gate will get automatically locked stopping that person from escaping the check point. The concerned authorities will be informed to intercept that person and investigate the individual on that matter.

Basically this project will revolve around the concept of Electromagnetic waves and its co-related fields. Due to this nature it will create interest of technical people to work and bring new innovations that will prove to be a good benefit for the market and industry.  In this technological era of rapid advancement there’s a dire need of developing a more secure public safety system as compared to the previous on already available. The biggest problem of all is related to tackling the problem of terrorism and developing a system that can easily detect and stop the imminent threat. The already available security products become obsolete due to rapidly growing technology hence there’s a regular need of upgrading the previous or inventing new machines to fill the gap of requirement.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We divided this project plan into four parts. The first part was related to the mechanical work that was basically the construction of our first gate.  The second part was related to testing infrared sensors and configured their sensitivity. All of the hardware components were tested and configured according to our requirements. The third part was related to the construction of the second gate and its design. Now the last part was connected to the electrical components like the motor and sensor.

Typically, walk through metal detectors are comprised of metal detectors used in the pursuit of discovering metal objects carried by persons attempting to gain access to a specific area. The present invention relates generally to walk through metal detectors for security applications and more specifically it relates to a walk through detector and method with interchangeable sensor panels and other structural members that can be quickly assembled, or disassembled and transported.

                              The present invention provides a walk through detection circuit that includes a power source. At least one transmitter circuit and at least one receiver coil is provided along with an amplifier. An integrator is electrically coupled to the amplifier and a track/hold circuit is electrically coupled to the integrator. The design of walk-through metal detectors demands attention to a number of practical requirements. For example, to be useful the detector must be sufficiently sensitive, detecting nearly all contraband objects. The detector must enable a high throughput, permitting a reasonably high traffic rate at normal walking speed. It must be immune to bombardment by interference signals of various sorts which could otherwise reduce the sensitivity of the instrument or cause false alarms.

                Such metal detectors are not new; Typical walk-through metal detectors, however, are designed with relatively low sensitivity. To avoid having airline passengers remove jewelry, keys, and clothing, security metal detectors need only be sensitive enough to detect the amounts of metal in weapons. Such metal detectors are not usable to detect minute amounts of metal, such as is contained in integrated circuit chips.
