Smart shield for covid protection
Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummaryDue to the critical situation of covid-19, there’s an ongoing shortage of PPE devices. Furthermore, it is important to cover the exposed areas of our body that are likely to catch the virus easily and cause an infection such as eyes, nose and mouth. This led to a requirement of full-face covering devices like face shields. In addition to it, there’s a need of continuous monitoring for in-home covid-19 patients as well as those who are travelling because it is not feasible for them to carry multiple equipments for monitoring various parameters like temperature, Sp02 and heart rate. These are the main symptom-based parameters to be monitored in covid-19 patients. Our project will offer the extension of continuous monitoring from the hospital to the home for Covid-19 patients. Also, our studies will demonstrate the extent of this benefit with technologies that measure parameters directly related to the SARS-Cov-2 with clinical-grade accuracy. Hence, our project offers a combo of protection as well as continuous monitoring of covid-19 symptoms with sensors and modules fixed in a face shield. These will be monitoring body temperature, Heart rate and SpO2. While another special feature is the emergency alerts via a GSM module as well as location details of the patient with a GPS module thereby ensuring safety of a patient and society to a great extent.
Project ObjectivesTo construct an Electronic Face Shield that aims to provide protection against contagious viruses especially Covid-19, and also monitor the parameters that directly relates to this disease.
Project Implementation MethodThe temperature sensor, SpO2 sensor, and heartrate sensor is attached on the Face Shield and they touch the forehead for taking the desired readings. These sensors are activated by arduino and they send the data to arduino which in turn sends this data to a bluetooth module to be displayed on a mobile application. With the usage of GSM module, emergency message alerts can be sent to the care taker while the location of the patient can be traced with the help of a GPS module. The controller of the entire circuit is arduino nano. The circuit is powered by a battery to make it wireless. This way physical barrier, continuous monitoring, location tracing and emergency alerts will ensure the safety of patients.
