parametric evaluation of FDM parts
Project Area of Specialization 3D/4D PrintingProject SummaryFused deposition modeling, or FDM 3D Printing, is a method of additive manufacturing where layers of materials are fused together in a pattern to create an object.
In this project our focus is on strength, warping, shrinkage unpleasent smell of abs which occurs during 3D printing and to enhance the mechanical properties of FDM generated parts.
During FDM process using 3D printer the material being printed faces problems like decrease in strength, warping, shrinkage,in the model. Project aim is to reduce and control these properties of the material and to enhance the mechanical properties of the FDM generated parts.
For achieving these goals various materials were studied along with their mechanical properties we mixed different materials which have better properties in this aspect to make filament for 3D printer. virgin and recycled abs were mixed at equal ratio. After that three imported filaments and a filament of material Chiemi (grade 707) printed and made a comparison to refine propertes
Project ObjectivesTo refine the ABS properties by changing operating parameters and mixing with different materials.
To analyze the operating parameters of FDM (3D Printer) products.
To perform different tests on ABS products to observe change in their characteristics.
Project Implementation Method•First and foremost step in FDM process is to make a filament to printing setup.
•For filament making process, pre-heating, and compounding processes are to be performed first.
•Then small granules are recommended for filament making process.
•Once filament is made then the process continues in the following manner:
1.cad model
2.stl format.
3.raw material
4.variables and constants
5.final product
6.testing of product
7.results formation
8.final presentation
9.report writting.
Benefits of the ProjectFused deposition modeling is an additive manufacturing technology .It creates 3D components using a continuous thermoplastic or composite material thread in filament form.
Application
