Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryAn IoT-based Energy Metering & Customer Monitoring System is an effective and less expensive way to monitor and meter energy provider service. This system will serve the purpose of replacing our current energy meters that require manual meter-reading methods and also be a good alternative for newly installed GSM–based energy meters.
It comprises of Energy meters connected together in chain topology that will forward consumer data meter-by-meter till the last meter is connected to internet via WiFi and will end at a server. The consumers will be able to track their previous energy consumption with the help of an Android Application for service satisfaction and queries. Furthermore, the service provider will also be able to monitor data for transmission service optimization.
This implementation of an Energy metering network can be implemented in urban cities of Pakistan which is less labor-extensive and less network infrastructure-extensive whilst improving customer satisfaction of Energy provider companies.
Project ObjectivesOur IoT-based Energy Metering & Customer Monitoring System enables consumers and as well as energy suppliers, to overcome challenges of satisfying energy delivery in this age of urban overpopulation.
We strive to develop a system to facilitate energy consumers in our country with IoT-based solutions with the resources we have available. Furthermore, this will enable the DISCOs to optimize their services based on extensive data-centric approaches.
Project Implementation Method- To construct an energy meter with reliable energy measurement, connectivity, and persistence.
- To implement a network of devices (energy meters) that are interconnected and less network infrastructure-extensive whilst being reliable in most situations
- To design and develop an android application that will be easy-to-use, interactive, and improve customer satisfaction.
- Consumers availing energy service can easily monitor their usage
- Distribution company can get significant data to optimize their service
- Distribution companies can handle and track complaints better
- Government can monitor usage trends and taxation
- Society as a whole will benefit as electricity theft and losses will be reduced
A system of fully functional energy meters and a server that will collect, process, and provide data to the consumer and distribution company for viewing.
