With increasing physical inactivity and its health effects, augmenting gyms to motivate, assist and coach users to track and achieve their fitness goals is important. A sleek elegant mirror is covered into a full gym to stay healthy and in shape with a single touch and voice controlled screen. It focuses on people who are interested in maintaining their fitness. It also encourages people with physical inactivity, obesity and sedentary lifestyle.
The Fitness Recommendation Mirror user interface has a set of standard applications that provide important information to the user like weather report, news feed, calendar schedule and clock etc. It has voice control through a voice recognition system developed into the user interface. The voice control allows for interaction with the to-do list. The voice control is activated through a phrase provided by the user. It will allow its user to use the Google Voice Assistant. It also allows motion & error detection and correction.
The goal of Fitness Recommendation Mirror is to positively affect the user’s feelings by increasing motivation, mood, feeling of fitness and it’s productivity by saving their time as it offers a brand-new fitness experience that will give gym a competitive edge, providing an effective, personalized coaching experience, while using space and time more efficiently.
Project ObjectivesWith the leading health issues in our society, physical inactivity can have serious implications for people’s health, said the World Health Organization (WHO). Approximately 2 million deaths per year are attributed to physical inactivity. Sedentary lifestyle could very well be among the 10 leading causes of death and disability in the world. It increase all causes of mortality, double the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and increase the risks of colon cancer, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, lipid disorders, depression and anxiety.
According to WHO, 60 to 85% of people in the world—from both developed and developing countries—lead sedentary lifestyles, making it one of the most serious yet insufficiently addressed public health problems of our time. Physical inactivity, along with poor diet and nutrition, are increasingly becoming part of today’s lifestyle leading to the rapid rise of diseases. Obesity and sedentary lifestyle is one of the biggest problems in Pakistan. It is estimated that nearly two-thirds of children are also insufficiently active, with serious implications for their future health.
Keeping in view the above problems in our society, fitness awareness is a must. This lead us to the idea of designing and developing a mirror which motivates to stay fit and healthy. The habit of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise is the main motive of our Fitness Recommendation Mirror.
While concepts for these above mentioned isolated problems exist, none of these combine them into one system. Fitness Recommendation Mirror is designed and developed to solve the above mentioned issues. From beginner to expert levels, every level-type of people are encouraged to use this mirror as it provides proper instructions on how to exercise. It guides you to exercise properly by error corrections and will applaud on your progress for doing it the right way.

We designed & prototyped a device using an agile approach by displaying the user’s image and providing customizable information on the display & to maintain healthy life with the help of this mirror to provide professional training, physical strength, stamina, flexibility, greater powers of concentration & self-control through Fitness Recommendation Mirror. We propose to build this smart piece of hardware by keeping in mind all the requirements and drawbacks of existing system. Face recognition module is used to hide the data until it detects & recognizes you. For face recognition, faces are trained & saved in the database.
This mirror recommends you how to improve your fitness and exercise skills. Motion and error detection helps a user to know where he is going wrong and correct his postures & body movements through our error detection module.
The steps followed are:

This mirror is designed to use a 32-inch diagonal display, positioned vertically, which will mounted behind a one-way mirror allowing only elements lit on the screen to be seen by the user. It contains speakers that allow for application notification sounds & playback. The Fitness Recommendation Mirror user interface has a set of standard applications that provide important information to the user like weather report, news feed, calendar schedule & clock etc. Voice control is performed through a voice recognition system developed into the user interface which allows interaction with the to-do list & its user to use the Google Voice Assistant. It involves various resources to accomplish these deliverables; some of them are:

The main purpose of this project is to provide facility, professional training, proper exercise and instructor’s instructions that can guide & help you stay fit and healthy for a better lifestyle.
Physical activity or exercise can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease etc. It can have immediate and long-term health benefits. Most importantly, regular activity can improve your quality of life. Physical activity and active mindset leads in the reduction of death rate as well as other disabilities and diseases. Fitness Recommendation Mirror will help you stay fit, active & healthy. It guides you to exercise properly by error corrections and will applaud on your progress for doing it the right way.

Implementation of this mirror and awareness of a healthy lifestyle and its benefits will reduce health expenses of the nation which can be used in other development purposes for Pakistan. The healthier the society, the more productive it becomes. It not only helps in the country’s economic growth but also in the production and its development.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableFitness Recommendation Mirror was designed and developed in order to promote a healthy lifestyle in an ambient environment, provide facility, professional training, proper exercise, instructions & guidance to help you stay fit and healthy for a better lifestyle while maintaining the record of your previous exercise. It will check your body angles & correct your postures. People with obesity & sedentary lifestyle are mainly the targeted audience. Every level user is encouraged to use. A healthy society is a productive society (increase in country’s economic growth, production and its development). Project modules are:

There are few limitations:
- For single user at a time
- For physically healthy people (people with no medical problems)
- People with disease are not encouraged to use it
- All modules/application can’t be ran/accessed at the same time except for few.
- Shouldn’t be kept under sunlight or moist environment for a very long time
- Should be kept under ventilation or somewhere in fan so that the Raspberry Pi doesn’t heat up
It is assumed that this mirror will benefit Pakistan’s economy & even our society by making it healthy, active & productive. Thus, the only thing that is to be taken care is the environment; if kept under sunlight or heat or somewhere in moisture, Raspberry Pi might burn out & the mirror might not work. It might vary in size with the time and so the cost.
Other modules of the project are dependent on face recognition module which is used as a lock to access other modules including motion detection, error detection and music etc. the only security concern is that the people with their photos saved in the data set are able to access the mirror. None other with the photos not in the data set can access it.
All software features our dependent on a hardware & won’t be accessible if Raspberry Pi isn’t accessible.
Backups are being made for any hardware or software issue. We have extra SD cards, fans & Raspberry Pi as a backup in stock in case of burns out. Human Resources are also involved to achieve the deliverables.
Quality is the main factor that is kept in mind. Each and every module is tested at every stage for better results. Every interface is linked and will be in position with the whole screen. The alignment is given the main concern & preference. Accurately working & timely responsive modules, maintaining the standard & criteria & making sure each & every module is meeting the criteria. First-rate quality equipment are used with great processing power including good quality camera, LCD etc. which gives good picture quality& results. The frame of the mirror will be fully secured & properly assembled to supporting the hardware. Taking large accurate data set can help produce more accurate results.
