Project Summary

Electronics vehicles (EV) are becoming more & more popular with every passing day. As compared to the combustion engine they are more power-efficient and environment friendly. Due to their cost-effectiveness and less frequent maintenance, they seek the attention of customers. The main advantage of EVs is that electricity can be a renewable resource, and gasoline cannot. We are designing a Rectifier and an LLC boost converter for a DC LEVEL 2 charger.

Project Objectives

In a time like this when energy conservation has become the main goal of every development electric vehicles are taking over the conventional combustion engine, our goal in this research is to make the electric charger more efficient. One of the major problems in the electric vehicle industry in Pakistan is that there is no local company manufacturing EV chargers. Most of them are imported which is very costly. We are trying to design an EV charger in Pakistan.

Project Implementation Method

We are designing a Rectifier and an LLC boost converter for a DC LEVEL 2 charger. We are designing a 3-phase rectifier full-bridge rectifier that will convert 3 phase ac supply to dc. The converted dc voltage will then be converted to ac at a specific frequency which goes through LLC resonant tank. We are using full-bridge LLC topology to boost the voltages. We use a multi-tapping toroidal transformer for isolation. We are using a multi-tapping transformer to also boost the voltages to a certain value which cannot be attained with the LLC resonant tank. We use a full-bridge rectifier at the end to convert the boosted ac voltage to dc.

Benefits of the Project

The main benefit of this project is that EV vehicles are very attractive. One of the major problems in the electric vehicle industry in Pakistan is that there is no local company manufacturing EV chargers. Most of them are imported which is very costly. We are trying to design an EV charger in Pakistan that can be made available to people at a reasonable price. We are designing a level 2 EV charger that  will help charge the vehicle quickly.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

In our project wew are going to develop a single module of speecification of 800volts 20 ampere which we will integrate with other modules of same rationg to achieve the standard of level  2 EV charger that is 1000 volts 400 ampere. A single moule comprised of rectifier, inverter ,llc boost ,PFC boost and  transformer. This single module is replicated several times and integrate togather to achieve desired rating.
