A Biogas plant is used for the treatment of municipal and industrial organic waste, agricultural biomass and sewage sludge and their conversion into renewable energy.
The biogas plant consists of the following parts:-
1) Inlet or charge pit:- for passage of slurry into the digester.
The raw material used is cattle dung, farm refuse, organic waste.
2) Digester:- cylindrical tank which is airtight, above which is present a floating gas holder of metal with an outlet of gas and pit for removal of sludge.
Here the organic wastes get solubilized into simpler substances called monomers (solubilisation).
Monomers change to organic acid by fermenting microbes (acidogenesis).
Organic acid mostly formed is acetic acid.
Methanogens become active and act on components of microbial digestion and form methane gas (methanogenesis).
3) Outlet:- consists of sludge which is used as manure.
The methane gas formed in this process is used for cooking and lighting.
Many different biogas plants have been established and different advancements have been made for the productive working of a biogas plant,such as it's automation with PLC , yet there are still many aspects of this biogas plant that can be further flourished in terms of efficiency .
The biogas plant should not only be efficient in it’s working, but should also provide an eco-friendly environment with proficient fermentation abilities; a complete robust product for a highly competitive era, meant to work for higher quality and better quantity.

The future agricultural biogas plant is flexible with regard to feedstocks, digester operation,microbial communities and biogas output. The digestion process is stable, susceptibility to disturbances is low.

We plan that the future agricultural biogas plant to be operated on the basis of knowledge,information and automation. Knowledge-based means that the highly complex microbialprocess of anaerobic digestion is much better understood and that these basic insights are preparedfor implementation in process monitoring and control. Information-driven means that feedstocksand digestion process are continuously monitored for physico-chemical and microbial parameters.The comprehensive knowledge and continuous information on the state of the digestion process form the basis for proceeding automation of plant operation. To cope with the increasing complexity in process control, the digestion process needs to be modelled. Future models take over the physico-chemical and microbial data from process monitoring, simulate options of process control, induce automated reactions or derive recommendations for the plant operator.

These includes the Inputs and Outputs whicjh will show ythe complete utilization of PLC's ports according to the desired systems.
1.Encoders and switches :These will help us to give feedback from sensors and convert motion into electrical signal.
2. The Output deliverables include:
Soleniod Valves: We will use solenlolid valves with water inlets so that the switching is done on the basis of 0 and 1.
Gate Vlaves: Gate valves are used with gear motors and their operations are control by the DPTD relays.
Conveyer motor: Conveyer motor is operated when we need to mix the slurry and in conveyer the solution is thick so we need to push it in the digester.
Agitator motor: It is used with conveyer motor.
Monoblock: Is used to recirculate the slurry as well as it is used to excrete the slurry out of digester after 15 days.
One analog Temperature sensor: It will be used to monitor the Temperature in the digester.
