Project Summary

Any contribution done for the cause of humanity brings even greater rewards in the future. However, due to lack of research in this area, the development of cost effective machines has become limited and therefore, we aim to design an Electrocardiogram (ECG) interpreter that will function in such a way that it will replace a doctor and his expert diagnosis by thinking like a medical expert. The process will begin with a quick and painless test which will record the electrical activity of the heart in a web based application. The web based application will then detect each recurring pattern of the ECG with the help of multiple pattern matching algorithms. The pattern matching algorithms will enable the system to detect any such conditions of the heart that might have been derived from ECG pattern and fallen into the category of danger. Unless the heart is perfectly normal and healthy, the system will not produce any such results, but in case the ECG belongs to an unhealthy heart, the algorithms will set their wheels in motion and an upright result will be generated to facilitate the patient right away. The main purpose of this idea is to improve efficiency, maintain stability, accessibility, cost-effectiveness and portability to take a better take at the future. Our idea is designed in such a way that it will not only detect the irregularities that disrupt the ECG patterns but it will also direct the patients to the causes, symptoms and even treatment of that illness without even having to consult a professional doctor.

Project Objectives

• To acquire expert diagnosis in minimum expenditure.

• To design an electrocardiogram (ECG) that will perform a quick test to record the electrical activity of the heart and then notify patients with the result through a web application right away.

• As visiting a cardiologist in town might be costly for some individuals, our proposed system will be cost-friendly and economical for the patients residing in urban areas.

• The painless test will reduce the uneasiness and fear among the patients.

• It is portable hence it will be convenient to carry especially for heart patients.

• It can be used by anyone who wants to access the web application to have a quick checkup on his heart condition regardless of time and place.

• Apart from detection, the patient will also get to know about the steps that must be taken in order to find a solution to the diagnosed heart problem.

Project Implementation Method

To carry out the purpose of the proposed idea correctly, Machine learning techniques appear to be the best option. Other techniques that could facilitate in pattern matching algorithms and identification of the given data set could also be considered in the near future. Firstly, an Arduino based ECG & Monitoring Healthcare System will be designed to acquire the ECG of a patient right then. This system will be assembled with the help of following hardware:

? Arduino Uno/Mega/Nano

? ECG Module (AD8232)

? Power Supply

? Connecting wires And following software:

? Arduino IDE

? Spyder ( Anaconda navigator )

 The device will record the ECG of the patient on the system which will then be used as an input for the algorithms. The analysis of the input will be carried out with the help of suitable algorithms embedded in the web application that will study the P-Q-R-S-T patterns of the ECG and their durations to find out if any discrepancy has occurred. In case of such an event, the system will instantly identify the irregularity and inform the user about the cardiac condition along with its solution/treatment.

Benefits of the Project

The ECG interpreter we introduce will add to the efficiency in the diagnosis of any cardiac disease within minutes. The signal that will travel from the patient’s heart through the Arduino device all the way to the system will result in a detailed diagnosis of the patient’s ECG within minutes. In case of any irregularities in the pattern of ECG, the system will classify the abnormalities according to the relative heart conditions and display them along with the steps based on expert opinions to rectify those irregularities instantly. In a matter of minutes, a person will easily be able to get his detailed cardiac diagnosis done without having to spend 8 money on countless other ECG tests and appointments with famous cardiologists for expert opinion on their ECG reports.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The ECG interpreter we introduce will be comprise of a hardware ECG machine which will take the patients data from the electrodes placed on his body. It will update the database linked to it and trigger throught the algorithm running at the backend if any abnormalities are found. The algorithm will be constructed in python using the concepts of artifical intelligence and machine learning to detect a waveform.
