Project ObjectivesDrone Control by Hand Gestures Through Webcam (DCHGTW) is a drone which is controlled by a hand gesture. Hand Gesture Recognition system used for interfacing between machine and human using hand sign. Normally drones are controlled by remote or motion sensors. But in this, we are using a hand gesture to provide a good interaction to control the drone remotely from a laptop camera or any other camera. We propose the use of hand gesture as a method to control drones.
Project Implementation MethodWe will use a simple drone on which we will attach Raspberry Pi & wireless module, which is used to connecting hand gesture recognition software (which will be running in a laptop) and drone. In hand gesture recognition system is based on machine learning, there will be the training of hand gesture (only navigations control system based on a particular gesture) that will be performed. After the recognition of the correct gesture, it will send instructions to the Raspberry Pi system based on that drone will be navigated. We use the Linux operating system as a platform for this project and OpenCV (library/package) will be the main part of this software, which will recognize live hand gestures.
Benefits of the ProjectThe idea of developing this application is to make an innate and easy to use an alternative that is different and more entertaining than common controls. This software is replacing a remote, which was difficult to carry, and it also has cost. After this application, there will not be a problem of carrying any hardware except drone and it will reduce cost. It can be used by any person and without any gadgets, it will only control by gestures, which is very easy to control for everyone. Controlling a drone via gestures are not very common hence it’s beneficial to take advantage of a growing field. In the future, after attaching a camera on this drone, it can be used for security purpose or after attaching different gadgets it can be used for solving various problems.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableWe are using Raspberry Pi, which will give instructions to the drone. Wireless (wireless serial communication device), which will provide communication between PC and Raspberry Pi. It is connected to PC through USB explorer and connected to Raspberry Pi.4 Motors will be used and 5 IC will also be used. The microcontroller will control everything on the drone. The battery will give power to every component on the drone. The drone will help with process movement.
