Project Summary
We are isolating potent antibiotics from soil actinomycetes. Soil actinomycetes have been proven exceptional in isolation of majority of the present day antibiotics e.g. gentomycin, streptomycin, vancomycin, neomycin, and what not. The arena is diverse. And till date several potent antimicrobial as well as antiparasitic compounds have been isolated and commercialized widely. We are on a mission to seek out another one, helping to provide a solution to the growing antibiotic resistance.
Project Objectives
Isolation and Identification of actino bacteria will be done.
Screening for antimicrobial potential and the degree of antimicrobial potential.
Isolation, purification and structural characterization of the antibiotic compound.
Project Implementation Method
Microbiology laboratory techniques will be utilized and incorporated in combination with basic pharmacy techniques for purification and characterization of antibiotic.
Benefits of the Project
A new potential antibiotic ( can be antifungal, antibacterial, or antiparasitic) can be isolated to add to the present antibiotic list which can prove to be a helping step in solving the global issue of antibiotic resistance.
