It is difficult, if not impossible to quickly find a vacant space in a parking lot, especially on weekends or public holidays. Approximately 70 percent of visitors can take more than 10 minutes to find spaces during weekends or public holidays. Stadiums, shopping malls, hospitals etc are crowded at peak times, which is a major problem for customers to find vacant slots at these locations. Insufficient parking spaces result in traffic congestion and driver frustration. If a car is parked in such a way that instead of one it occupies two parking slots, then that is called inappropriate parking. Such inappropriate parking may occur if another driver's rights are not taken care of by a driver. Moreover there is no security of theft and threat of car. Developing an automated smart car parking system will address this. Improper parking often leads to inappropriate space that causes vehicles to damage each other. To overcome these problems we are implementing prototype of automatic car parking system which is smart parking system that displays allocation of slots(availability of slots) on screen moreover face recognition and number plate recognition makes the system more secured and for billing owner is notified about the hourly based parking fee on his mobile. It is based on artificial intelligence and complex image processing is done as there is face and number plate recognition. We live in world where everything can be controlled and operated automatically, but there are still a few important sectors in our country where automation has not adopted or not been put to a full-fledged use, perhaps because of several reasons, one such reason is cost. So this system is important as population is increasing day by day for the country as this system can solve all the mentioned problems
Project ObjectivesThe project main objective is to replace the current parking management system in an efficient way. Here is the list of this project objective:
- To develop an intelligent, user friendly automated car parking system which reduces the manpower and traffic congestion.
- To offer safe and secure parking slots within limited area.
- Display information of availability of parking space.
- Automatic billing system.
- Making parking safer, secure and authentic.
- Technological advancement.
This "Automated Car Parking" project shows the concept of an automatic car parking system. Automated parking can be defined as using advanced technologies within an urban mobility strategy to operate, monitor and manage parking efficiently. It is hard to find an unoccupied parking space in today's existing manual system in a large parking lot. The automated parking system proposed helps to find the empty slots even before parking. If there are no slots empty, the gate will not be opened by servo motor and the message "Space not available" will be displayed on the Lcd in front of the parking gate.
At the first stage, the description on Lcd display about parking full or empty and how many slots are available. In second stage, on the behind of entrance barrier the Cctv camera will capture the image of number plate of car owner and owner face also. This is the only way, which will secure the parking from theft. In third stage, ultrasonic sensors sense the parking environment and if the space is sufficient, a safe parking maneuver is generated. In fourth stage, an SMS reminder will be forward on car owner mobile phone about parking fee with respect to parking time before the leave of parking slot. And in the last stage, on the behind of exit barrier the second stage will be repeat to identify the car owner and car also . This procedure will be used to identify the same candidate on entrance and exit point. And we are using raspberry pi 4b for this prototype which is technological advanced.

- Increased Safety –License plate and customer recognition cameras gather pertinent footage. Also, decreased spot-searching traffic on the streets can reduce accidents caused by the distraction of searching for parking.
- Real-Time Data and Trend Insight – Over time, a smart parking solution can produce data that uncovers correlations and trends of users and lots. These trends can prove to be invaluable to lot owners as to how to make adjustments and improvements to drivers.
A prototype of Artificial intelligence based automati car parking system is efficeint system which can save time and will be secured. where our operating system will be raspberry pi 4b and for image processing two cameras will be needed for face recognition and number plate recognition and IR sensors & Ultrasonic sensors will be mounted which will tell the presence of the car & LCD will be required for slots display and parking fee reminder will be sent to car owner through GSM module on owner's phone. A hardboard will be required for its structure.
