Applications of Software Define Radio SDR in Digital Communication using Hack RF One
HackRF One is a wide-band Software Defined Radio (SDR) half duplex transceiver created and manufactured by Great Scott Gadgets. It is able to transmit and receive signals. Its transmission power rating is ranging from 1 to 50 mW. Moreover its operating frequency ranges from 1MHz to 6GHz. In this project, we will configure this device to implement fundamental telecommunication systems such as M-ary QAM system, GMSK system and Spectrum Analyzer etc.
•To learn how to configure a programmable RF module that will be Software Defined Radio (SDR).
•To learn GNU radio and its applications in Digital Communication.
•To learn Python language to develop application for specific telecommunication module.
•To design, implement and test digital communication systems such as M-ary QAM, GMSK.
Block level coding based on GNU Radio over Linux operating system and python is used to configure a Software Defined Radio (SDR) namely HackRF One.
HackRF One is an SDR that act as an open source platform capable of transmitting the radio signals ranges from 1MHZ to 6GHZ, alongside having the capability of operating like a USB peripheral. Furthermore, the hardware platform of this device can be programmed according to the requirements of the project, so making it suitable for use as standalone device.
Thus, in this project we will implement and test (real time) M-ary QAM and GMSK systems using the above coding techniques on HackRF One SDR device.
•Open Source
•It supports the concept of Green Cellular Network.
•It operates on a larger radio frequency range, thus a single device can be used to test different telecommunication standards.
•Different off-the-shelf communication systems can be configured using one device (multipurpose module).
•It is less costly than other available application specific hardware in the market.
In this project we will configure and test different telecommunication systems using two HackRF One module, one as a transmitter and the other as a receiver. Furthermore, we will test (real time) M-ary QAM and GMSK systems using the above coding techniques on HackRF One SDR device.
