Project Summary

INTRODUCTION:

An incubator is designed to provide a safe, controlled artificial environment similar to the womb for infants to live while their vital organs develop. In addition to this, an incubator offers protection from allergens, germs, excessive noises, and light levels that might cause harm. An incubator’s ability to control humidity also allows it to protect a baby’s skin from losing too much water and becoming brittle or cracking. An incubator can include equipment to track a range of things including a baby’s temperature and heart rate. This monitoring allows nurses and doctors to constantly track a baby’s health status

WORKING OF AN INCUBATOR:

Infant incubators working can be defined as a fan blows filtered air on a heating filament and a water container. We can also supply amount of oxygen in incubator. The moistened, heated and enriched air now flows into the above cabinet containing baby. This circulation gives the baby a safe environment for the growth.

MAJOR PARAMETERS TO BE ADDED:

Application Based Monitoring & Controlling:

Application based monitoring and controlling of an incubator can be performed through a WIFI module. The major advantage of this parameter is to enhance surveillance and make it more reachable from anywhere. This gives the nurses and doctors to work flexibly while increasing the overall productivity. Also, the application-based monitoring will be user friendly and can be easily customized.

Fire Alarm Feedback System:

The feedback system known as fire alarm feedback system will be implemented in this project. The main advantage and function of a fire alarm system is to ensure ultimate safety. This parameter will help warn the staff and keep baby safe and reduce the chances of destruction to an equipment. 

Project Objectives

We will design an infant incubator whose parameters can be controlled and displayed on Android Application which will provide smart and intuitive ease of use, sophisticated functionality and simplified operations to the nurses and other medical staff. The achievements we are expecting in this project is that it could be more reliable, safe, enhanced surveillance, low cost and power efficient.

It is different from the conventional baby incubator like we have interfaced it with a microcontroller (Arduino), Application based controlling and monitoring, Alarm system and Flame feedback system.

Project Implementation Method

In our project we are using flame sensor, humidity sensor, and temperature sensor. We are developing flame feedback system which will be used as emergency feedback. Also, we are developing android based controlling and monitoring through Wi-Fi module.

To make this project Android Application based we will use Wi-Fi Module for monitoring and to operate heating system. User can set temperature using application and can monitor more than one incubator by same application. When user will give information on app then via Wi-Fi module the information is transmitted to Arduino then heating system will start to heat inside incubator till it reaches to given information. Then Wi-Fi Module will take information regarding to temperature and humidity. This will help to enhance surveillance and make it more accessible from anywhere.

Fire Alarm Feedback System includes Buzzer, IR Flame Sensor, Motor, Solenoid Valve, Fire Extinguisher and Fan. This system will enhance the capability of incubator to response rapidly against fire inside incubator. When fire buzzer starts to ring fire extinguisher will quench the fire and motors will start to lift baby up.
IR Flame sensors will sense the flame then it will send information to Arduino, then the Arduino will open the Solenoid valve of fire extinguisher more over motors will rotate and lift baby up.

We will use Arduino IDE to program Arduino and will use BLYNK app for the operation and monitoring of incubator.

Benefits of the Project

The benefit of this project is that we can monitor and control the parameters of an incubator through any location and can maintain and operate it through a Wi-Fi and manually as well. The monitoring and controlling will provide more ease and comfort to the staff of the neonatal intensive care unit.

Fire alarm system will be implanted in this project which is capable to respond quickly when a fire is caught. Also, globally many cases are reported about the burning of the baby through the malfunction or short-circuit of an incubator so this project can be more stable and safer in that case.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

  • The final outcome of this prototype would be a smart incubator which will perform app-based monitoring and controlling of the baby which can make the life of the doctors and nurses easier.
  • The routine of the staff of pediatric unit will be improved and more unchallenging.
  • In this prototype we will install alarms out of which one is emergency feedback alarm system which will improve the efficiency and consistency of an incubator by automatically extinguishing a fire when a certain malfunction occurs inside an incubator and also alerting this feedback in the application.
