Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryA Water Vortex Power Plant is based on the flow of running water which rotates the propeller and generates electrical energy. It is a hydropower generating unit, which production is based on the creation of a vortex in a spun. In this project, an inclined path of water is made alongside the river or a channel of water with a fast flow, in between that there is a spun through which water enters from the river end, then water flows in the vortex form because of the conical structure of the spun and at the end water will rejoin the flow of the river. The vortex rotates the propeller and the propeller is attached to the shaft of the alternator that produces electrical energy.
Project ObjectivesRural areas and villages are still in the process of development, in need of electricity but not at the price of pollution and land harvesting. The aim is to utilize the running water from a river, tube well, dam spill and use its high speed to rotate the prime mover and generate electricity via natural sources. The aim is to generate electricity in a clean and pollution-free environment with fewer resources and still be able to generate at least 500W of electricity and store it for utilization.
Project Implementation MethodThe implementation process for this particular project involves multiple components, starting with the input or the inlet water through a pipe collecting the flowing water with high kinetic energy through a structural basin imposing water motion into a vortex manner, concentrating the water pressure on one point. At that point, a propeller is attached to the generator shaft, and mechanical energy produced due to the movement of the propeller blade is transferred to the generator shaft. The generator converts mechanical energy to electrical energy based on the fundamentals of Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. Moreover, the inverter is attached to the system converting the DC source into AC, including the charging system of the battery, stored for later use.
