Project Summary

Main reason behind excessive pollution is absence of a waste management system to manage garbage. People dump garbage in open, empty spaces available in the
vicinity. It creates unhygienic condition for the people and creates bad smell around the surroundings, which leads spreading diseases to the people living in such environment. A waste management system works by placing bins in different areas and collecting waste from them after regular intervals. In some areas, bins may overflow due to unavailability or frequency of garbage collection vehicles. To avoid such situations we are going to implement a project called IOT Based waste management using smart dustbin. In this system, multiple dustbins are located throughout the city or the Campus. These dustbins are provided with a sensor which detects the level of the waste and a GPS device for getting the location and to identify which bin is full. Data is transmitted by using 2G/3G network. When the level of the bin exceed, the device will transmit the reading along with the unique ID provided. It will inform the status of each and every bin in real time so that concerned authority can send the garbage collection vehicle only when the bin is full. By implementing this system resource optimization, cost reduction, effective usage of smart bins can be done.

Project Objectives

Smart waste management is the idea from which we can smartly mange the waste and control lots of problems which disturbs the society in pollution and diseases. The waste
management has to be done instantly else it leads to irregular management which will have adverse effect on nature. The Smart waste management is compatible mainly withconcept of smart cities. The main objectives of our proposed system are as follows:
? Design a smart bin
? Collect data from bins on server
? Providing shortest route to driver
? Reducing human time and effort
? Resulting in healthy and waste ridden environment.

Project Implementation Method

Smart Bins Placement initially 7 bins will be placed at different location in University.
Bins Integrated with Mobile and Web app.
Live Waste Level shown in application then sending intimation to driver automatically by system to collect that particulator bins waste.
All Employees salary and attendance managed by system.

Benefits of the Project

  • The “smart bin” communicates information on fill levels and ensures collection only when the bin is full.
  • Fewer collection visits reduce congestion and traffic interruption, resulting also in cleaner and safer streets.
  • Traffic reduction due to fewer collection visits helps reduce carbon dioxide and other emissions.
  • The “smart bins” are standardized so that they can be emptied with existing equipment.
  • A reduction in the number of waste bins needed
  • Analytics data to manage collection routes and the placement of bins more effectively
  • Improved environment (i.e. no overflowing bins and less unpleasant odours)

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Arduino Uno
Arduino Uno is a micro controller board. It has 14 digital input/ output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz quartz crystal, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the micro controller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started.. You can tinker with your UNO without worrying too much about doing something wrong, worst case scenario you can replace the chip for a few dollars and start over again.

Ultrasonic Sensor:
The Ultrasonic Sensor sends out a high-frequency sound pulse and then times how long it takes for the echo of the sound to reflect back. The sensor has 2 openings on its front. One opening transmits ultrasonic waves, (like a tiny speaker), the other receives them, (like a tiny microphone). The speed of sound is approximately 341 meters (1100 feet) per second in air. The ultrasonic sensor uses this information along with the time difference between sending and receiving the sound pulse to determine the distance to an object.

WiFi Module – ESP8266:
The ESP8266 WiFi Module is a self contained SOC with integrated TCP/IP protocol stack that can give any micro controller access to your WiFi network. The ESP8266 is capable of either hosting an application or offloading all Wi-Fi networking functions from another application processor. Each ESP8266 module comes pre-programmed with an AT command set firmware, meaning, you can simply hook this up to your Arduino device and get about as much WiFi-ability as a WiFi Shield offers. ? Breadboard: A breadboard is a construction base for prototyping of electronics. In the 1970’s the solder less breadboard (AKA plug board, a terminal array board) became available and nowadays the term “breadboard” is commonly used to refer to these. “Breadboard” is also a synonym for “prototype”. Because the solder less breadboard does not require soldering, it is reusable. This makes it easy to use for creating temporary prototypes and experimenting with circuit design. ? JUMPER WIRES: A jump wire is an electrical wire or group of them in a cable with a connector or pin at each end (or sometimes without them – simply “tinned”), which is normally used to interconnect the components of a breadboard or other prototype or test circuit, internally or with other equipment or components, without soldering.

GPS:
Location of bins also if stolen can easily find.

GPRS:
GSM 2G/3G used to send data by sim so if wifi internet is not working then bins information can be send by sims.
