Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThe necessity to check the vehicle over speed detection system is very essential and different methods have been used so far for this purpose.With the advancement in the technology, different governing bodies are demanding some sort of computerized technology to control this problem of over speed driving. The designed authorities system detects the vehicle which are being driven above maximum speed limit that the respective authoroties have specified for roads or highways. Speed detecting device works on the principle of Doppler Effect. The speed is compared with the preset threshold. Acquisition and transfer of image is done by a HD camera interfaced with raspberry pi. Raspberry pi is connected to the server via internet. The server runs an Image processing program which isolates the license plate from picture frame. The characters in the number plate is digitized and sent to the authority residing in the next station where the vehicle is heading.
As the Earth’s magnetic field signal can be used not only for the detection, but also for the classification and recognition of vehicles , it is highly important to ensure sensor effectiveness and the repetition rate of the recognized signal. To distinguish the over speed vehicle distortions of the magnetic field caused by the vehicle and caused by certain environmental changes is a rather difficult task but taking that into by use of road induction loops the process of locating vehicles using magnetic fields is way more complicated. When conducting the task of locating a vehicle using the magnetic field method, these external factors must be eliminated.
Mostly the method to detect the vehicle over speeding are active ones in which driver see the speed camera from a distance and reduce speed.However our approach is passive in which drivers cannot see the speed detecting device so the driver can be penalized for the over speeding.
Project ObjectivesThe main aim of this project is to implement a rash driving-detection system in cities that alerts traffic control authorities wirelessly in case of speed violation by any vehicle.
Project Implementation Method- We use two GMR sensors in this project to detect the over speeding of vehicles.
- GMR sensors detect the vehicles due to disturbance of earth magnetic field due to the vehicle magnetic field.
- Two GMR sensors are placed at several distance.
- When the vehicle crosses the 1st sensor the counter start which is programmable in the PIC microcontroller.
- When the vehicle crosses the second sensor the counter stop and hence by the microcontroller programming the speed of the vehicle is detected.
