Project Area of Specialization Computer ScienceProject SummaryThis project is about the design and implementation of vehicle tracking system using GPS and IoT technology. It comprises of integration between a GPS receiver and a chip with microcontroller and built-in Wi-Fi technology and a mobile application to track the real time location of the vehicle. This combination of technologies will produce a tracking system. This project can be divided into two parts which are hardware and software development. The hardware development includes the GPS and its integration with IoT module. The software development includes development of the microcontroller’s source code, NMEA protocol command and a mobile application development.
Project ObjectivesThis system will track a particular vehicle i.e., university’s bus to track its real time navigation through a cell phone application. All students will have access to this app who travel through bus so that they can keep track of bus, its location and the amount of time it will take to reach its destination. Secondly, we will also define specific bus stops in that app. So, students will also get a notification that the bus has reached this particular stop and thus students waiting for bus at that location will be notified as well.
Project Implementation MethodDevelopment of a C/C++ program for IoT module. Connection of the GPS module with IoT module for internet connectivity. GPS module will fetch real time coordinates (longitude, latitude) from satellite and send it on the cloud database. On the other hand, development of a mobile application, that app will fetch those coordinates from database and show the real time object location.
