Project Summary

Air pollution is one of environmental issues that cannot be ignored. Industrial growth and urbanization is resulting in increase in the air pollutants concentrations in many areas. These pollutants can cause damages in human health and other living organisms. To reduce these effects air pollution monitoring system is important. Our project proposes an air pollution observance system based on the technology of ZigBee. The system consists of sensor nodes, a control center and data base through which sensing data can be stored for history and future plans. The proposed system can be deployed to the industries for monitoring carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and dust concentration caused by industrial emissions due to process. The data will be stored in an appropriate platform and can be compared with the threshold levels of the toxic elements. Whenever it crosses an alarm is raised so that necessary actions can be incorporated. With the help of these data, we can easily found the presence of toxic gases in the nature successfully. The method can be employed in all cities for its proper applications. The measured data is displayed on the monitor using the graphical user interface (GUI).

Project Implementation Method

This system will use ZigBee, sensor nodes, GPS to construct distributed system for urban air pollution monitoring and control. ZigBee module and pollution server is interfaced with GPS system to display real-time pollutants levels and their location on a 24h/7 days’ basis.
The ZigBee is the new short range, low power, low data rate wireless networking technology for many applications. The main purpose of this project is to provide an overview of urban air pollution monitoring application. Our work is enabled by ZigBee, pollution sensors and i.e. attached to pollution server for storing the pollutants levels for future usage by various clients for measuring pollutants in air accurately at short intervals. The system measures air pollutant gases such as CO, NO2, and SO2. This project will prove to be a real time air pollution measuring unit in an urban area to ultimately improve quality of life on earth.
Our proposed product developed will have many features such as light weight and compact which makes it easy to carry, low battery power consumption, wireless communication over a wide range of distance and user friendly display of the data. The system tends to be possess low cost, wide coverage using different internet protocols, especially mobility on wiring to remove the limitation of traditional wired network systems in a certain area.

It is a compact device which consists of many sensors including cloud which are all combined by using internet of things (IoT).

Safety

One can avoid from going to particular location by redirecting themselves or by taking safety protections such as wearing mask and can reduce over dumped wastages in a particular locality area.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

.This project will be based on mobile application, Arduino (microcontroller) board and Other IOT tools. All the technical things through internet connection and handheld device. No other things are needed to run this application.

Components of Project are

ZigBee

ZigBee communication is specially built for control and sensor networks on IEEE standard for wireless personal area networks (WPANs), and it is the product from ZigBee alliance. This communication standard defines physical and Media Access Control (MAC) layers to handle many devices at low-data rates. These ZigBee’s WPANs operate at 868 MHz, 902-928 MHz, and 2.4 GHz frequencies. The data rate of 250 kbps is best suited for periodic as well as intermediate two-way transmission of data between sensors and controllers.

ZigBee Devices

FFD

Full-Function Device performs different tasks which are explained within the specification & it can adopt any task within the network.

RFD

Reduced-Function Device has partial capabilities so it performs limited tasks and this device can converse with any device within the network. It must act as well as pay attention within the network. An RFD device can converse simply with an FFD Device & it is used in simple applications such as controlling a switch by activating and deactivating it.

Arduino: The Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software used to build electronics projects. All Arduino boards have one thing in common which is a microcontroller. A microcontroller is basically a really small computer. An Arduino board is used as a tool for controlling electronics by reading inputs and turning it into outputs.

Arduino IDE: The Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is a cross-platform application (for Windows, macOS, Linux) that is written in functions from C and C++.It is used to write and upload programs to Arduino compatible boards.

 • RAM: Minimum of 512 MB, 2 GB is recommended

• Disk Space: 50GB disk space or more.
