Using Artificial Intelligence for Monitoring Students Academic Performance in Higher Education
The aim of the project is to design a student academic performance monitoring system using Artificial Intelligence methods. As Engineering education in Pakistan is now based on Outcome Based Education (OBE) system, therefore, there is strong need to find automated methods to keep a check on students performance in real time. In this project, we shall be developing an Artificial Intelligence based system for this purpose. We shall be using softcomputing methods like Fuzzy Logic in particular for the design. The selection has been made to handle the complexities and ambiguities involved in real time student monitoring. A mobile based application will also be developed to provide runtime monitoring of the students academic performance in higher education.
Project objectives are as follows
1.Analyse the existing student monitoring systems in higher education especially with a focus on OBE system
2. Design an Artificial Intelligence based student academic monitoring system with a focus on fuzzy inferencing method
3. Develop a mobile application for the designed system

4. Providing guidelines to HEIs for improving the quality of education
5, Development of a mobile application for ease of access and availability
During this capstone project, initially detailed literature review would be done to get insight of the existing student monitoring methods in higher education globally and with a specific focus on Pakistan and also related with OBE as per Pakistan Engineering Council guidelines. Then a fuzzy logic based Artificial Intelligent system would be developed with the key parameters decided to monitor students academic performance. Web surveys might be conducted for better data retrieval and to find out complexities and uncertainties of the data sets. Later on, a mobile application based on Artificial Intelligence technique would also be developed for runtime monitoring. BUET Khuzdar would be used as case study for the project. The final product would be a desktop based system as well as a mobile application to monitor the student academic performance based on OBE system.
