Ultrasonic adsorption of coloring dyes by using modified biochar from spent tea
Application of ultrasonic technology in the field of engineering and science has been emerged as a quick pathway for various processes i.e pollutant removal. The effluent of chemical and textile processes industries contains coloring dyes, which causes environmental pollution upon direct discharge on the earth surface. These pollutant laden effluents need to be treated by cost effective and quick processing. Generally, conventional adsorption by using activated materials is performed for removal of dyes. However, this conventional process is time consuming and costly. The conventional processing approach could be replaced with ultrasonic mechanism, which is robust and effective technique. As conventional adsorbents like activated carbon are very expensive, so utilization of organic based materials for adsorption of pollutant is environmentally friendly and novel approach.
In this view, current research is focused on the development of rapid protocol for ultrasonic adsorption of coloring dyes by using spent tea derived as adsorbent. The wet spent tea husk will be pretreated to remove moisture followed by thermal process in controlled environment to produce adsorbent. The adsorbent will be characterized by using proximate, ultimate, FTIR, XRD and SEM techniques. The effluent with synthetic coloring dyes will be treated by using prepared adsorbent in controlled environment of ultrasonic system. The process parameters will be optimized and adsorption mechanism will be studied.
The objectives of the project is to develop rapid, sutible and cost effective protocol for coloring dyes treatment by ultrasonic technique. In additon, this project aims to develop novel modified biomaterial to be used as an adsorbent.
This project is divided into three sections.
Section-1: Preprocessign and developemnt of adsorbent from tea waste
The spent tea is waste material and will be collected from cafeterai of BUITEMS. This will be dried and characteried. The dried ST will be themally processed in controlled condiiton to obtain adsorbent. This adsorbent will be further characterized.
2. sensors connections and process development for prototype
3. In the second stage, synthetic dyes effluents obtained from Textile laboratory/industy will be obtained followed by ultrasonic adsrption by using prepared adsorbent in controlled environemnt.
The project will benefit the industry and society in the following ways
1. waste minimization
2. clean green environment
3. Idea for rapid processing approach
4. effecivness of controlled ultrasonic process
1.Fabrication of temperature controlled steel made circular tube
2. Thermocouples
3. Laser Temeprature detector
4. Ultrasonic cleaner tank (800 mL)
5. Temeprature datalogger
