Project Summary

Pakistan is the center of attraction for the multiple nations of different religious values. People are attached to these places due to their historical and religious sentiments.
But most of them are ruined due to many environmental factors, wars and social disputes, such as Derawar Fort, Taxila Ruins, Jaulian Buddhist Monastery, AmolkDara and Sadho Shareef.
One wonders how these ruined sites used to look when they were not destroyed. We present the idea of "Time Trek" - a useful service based on augmented reality system. "Time Trek"  will be an important application for destoryed historical sites. "Time Trek" gives the visitor an opportunity to feel  how these places looked in their time. User can have the time travel experience as they view the destroyed historical places in their original beauty. 

Project Objectives

Augmented Reality is the future of IT industry. "Time Trek" will provide a real immersive experience of ruined historical sites to the user in their original beauty. Many historical sites are preserved and maintained their charm which is the center attraction for both local and foreign tourists. There are number of historcal sites in Pakistan which are ruined due to war or other environmental factors. Nobody pays attention to them and we are wasting our national assests. But here comes the "Time Trek" app that can recreate the ruined historical sites of Pakistan using the emerging  technology of Augmented Reality. As these sites gain their charm and beauty, these would be the center of attraction for the tourists. "Time trek" provides a delightful experience of the past archaeological glory to the user so that they can experience the history in their present. 

Project Implementation Method

Mobile application is developed based on augmented reality using unity, vuforia, Xcode, android studio, blender and microsoft visual studio 2022. Unity and vuforia provides environment for the integration of augmented reality with our app. Blender is used for the creation of 3D model of selected sites. Visual studio is used for the scripting of 3D models. Android studio and XCode provide a platform for the whole application creation. Finished product is in the form of android and ISO application so that the user can install them using native app store. 

Benefits of the Project

Nobody pays attention to the ruined historical places that are not just our most valuable national assets but also have religious value for other communities of the world. We cannot rebuild them physically but using augmented reality we can recreate them three-dimensionally. Destoryed historical sites are restored virtually to promote foreign tourism in Pakistan as well as boost the economy of our country by a significant increase in tourism. 

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Final deliverable of the project is a mobile app which can be run on both android and IOS devices. App is compatible for android version 8.0 or above. For ISO minimum compatible version is 10.0.0. User can visit the site physically but using our application, user can see the restored historical site providing a realtime 3D experience. To achieve this goal, we have installed different markers on the destroyed historical sites. These markers trigger the 3D model of restored site so that the user can see the restored site not the destroyed one.
