To design a real-time 3D Modelling of a fetal head using Computer Vision and Image Processing.
To accomplish the goal of this project, multiple real-world ultrasounds of fully developed third-trimester fetuses will be collected which will act as a simulation of the actual feed that will be provided to the system.
It is expected that, to achieve a fluently functioning system. The model will be trained on the training set formed directly from the training examples. When the model is successfully trained, it will then be tested on the cross-validation set.
Once the model has been successfully trained, it is expected that the system will reach a state in which the error will not be able to reduce any further. However, it is also expected that the error rate at this point will be unsatisfactory. This will occur due to noise present in the ultrasound.
For Ultrasound, 2D imaging is still the primary standard. The acquiring of 3D ultrasound is still found to be rare and the resources for 3D ultrasound are restricted. Through our project, we will be providing better visualization and measurement of 3D ultrasound of the fetal head because the feature of the head is not clear in the 2D ultrasound, and we cannot distinguish between the features as there is no clear outline which will be the main problem arising in our project. We need to provide a platform that can provide a 3D model instead of 2D for the doctor/sonographer to measure the head size.
This can also assist in satisfying the demand for sonographers by reducing the number of sonographers in one clinic/hospital and spreading them throughout (since fewer sonographers will be able to cater to more patients due to the reduced time).
Furthermore, this system will be capable to assist not only the experienced but also the less experienced sonographers to speed up the process and reduce error.
The technology we will be using is Python 3 (Anaconda).
The main purpose of our project (Fetal Head Detection) is to assist sonographers in locating the head of the fetal in the third trimester after it has completely matured.
Our model would be classifying the fetal head from 2D Ultrasound images and then convert the classified head into a 3D Model
