STUDY AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PREPAID ENERGY METER WITH ANTI POWER THEFT DETECTION
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryPower utilities in different countries especially in the developing ones are incurring huge losses due to electricity theft. This project proposal a prepaid energy metering system to control electricity theft. In this project a smart energy meter is installed in every consumer unit and a server is maintained at the service provider side. Both the meter and the server are equipped with GSM module which facilitates bidirectional communication between the two ends using the existing GSM infrastructure. Consumers can easily recharge their energy meter by sending a PIN number hidden in a scratch card to the server using SMS. This proposal presents some measures to control meter bypassing and tampering. The bidirectional GSM communication using SMS ensures the effectiveness of these measures. Pilferage of electricity can be substantially reduced by incorporating the proposed measures along with the prepaid metering scheme. Legal actions against dishonest consumers can also be taken in this system. According to analysis report of 2017 by NEPRA around 1.2MW energy is wasted in terms of power theft only in Punjab. In this meter we will design a circuit that will compare both input and output values of voltages and currents, whenever power is theft by some person GPS will send SMS alert to consumer and Supply Company. In order to take fast action against them.
Project ObjectivesThe basic objective of our project is to protect the system from energy loss which is usually done through power theft ,we are gonna build a sytem which will protect from power theft as well as it will protect our appliances from being damaged from over or under voltage .
An other problem which is being faced is people often complain about over billing so we have proposed a solution which is prepaid billing, the customer have to charge the system for that purpose we are using sim808L.
One of the important features is to alert the supply companies as well as customers by sending SMS .
Project Implementation MethodThe project presents a robust system which allows the consumer to use electricity by making payments in a prepaid manner, just like the recharge of a mobile SIM is carried out. The user can recharge his/her system account by sending a simple SMS to the system. This SMS recharges the User's account. The system will also be capable of sending alerts to the user in case of low balance in the system to remind the user to recharge. The system cuts off the power supply when the balance of the system falls to zero based upon calculation of the amount of electricity being consumed by the load. The implementation is shown in Fig. 2. The load connected to the load side of the electricity meter is a bulb of 200 Watts. The SPDT relay is connected to the load on one side and is provided input from the Arduino for the triggering of the load. The single phase electricity meter is connected to 220 Volts 50 Hz AC supply. The LDR sensor is employed such that it receives maximum intensity of light when the Calibration LED blinks. The frequency of the blinking of the Cal.LED depends on the load connected to the load end of the meter. Higher loads correspond to increased frequency of LED blinks and vice versa is true for small value of loads connected. The LDR detects this blinking and the units consumed by the load are calculated.
Benefits of the ProjectFrom facts and figures we have come to know that supply companies in pakistan are facing huge loss due to power loss which is being done through power stealing or you can say that by applying buckle so by providing a solution to this we can avoid this loss above all people appliances in home are damaged due to over voltage and under voltage so we are using relay and protect appliances
Technical Details of Final DeliverableAs we have discussed that we are making prepaid energy meter with auto power theft control so for creating it we are using different components first of all the necessary coding will be done in arduino and to protect system from power we will use two current transformers in series so when there will be no phase shift we will not get any reading on the volt meter which is connnected in series and when there is buckle applied and a there is a phase shift so it will show some reading and due to coding it will send an sms to supply compnay that some thing is wrong.
