Strawberry Plant Count
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryUsually the small growers take 2-10 acres of land under varying contracts to cultivate the fruit. Grown in mid-October, the fruit is usually ready for harvest in January. By mid-February the harvesting gets in full swing only to end in April. In Sindh, Strawberry cultivationstarted about a decade ago.Our farmers don't use seeds but instead they use plants. When the rain comes, the real problem is faced and the plants get ruined. After that the farmer had to replace the ruined plant with the new one and the empty spaces had to be filled in. In Pakistan, nearly 10,000 plants per acre are spoiled in each harvest every year. So our idea is to detect and count total number of spoiled strawberry plants and also detect empty spaces and their respective location through our mobile application's GPS co-ordinates. That will enable a frame to be recorded and tagged with GPS coordinates.
Project ObjectivesOur mission also aims to empower our farmers with our new technology. We want the farmers to be able to grow more plants efficiently and save more time and money after using our project, by saving costly labor and counting the vacant spaces and spoiled plants at the end. And calculating the plants that were needed to replace the ruined plants.
Expected results:
• Total number of plants on strawberries.
• Total vacant spaces in area.
• Open spaces GPS Coordinates.
After collecting all the hardware we need, we will train our model of “Tensor Flow” and “Open CV library” by making our own data set of strawberry plants and empty spaces in their fields. After that we will able to detect and count total number of strawberries and empty spaces.
Benefits of the ProjectAWARENESS: To motivate farmers to use the technology of today's world and to become a part of it.
TIME SAVING: As, farmers do not need to manually count the number of spaces available, or the number of rotten plants or any kind of data, and it will save farmers ' time.
COST EFFICIENT: Each season or after each specific time period would save labor costs.
COVERING UP MARKET-GAP: Our project would create a bridge between today's world-class agricultural society and improve the chances of more success.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThrough building our own collection of strawberry plants and empty spaces within their fields, we will train our "Tensor Flow" and "Open CV library" models.
