One of the main concerns with our environment has been solid waste management which in addition to disturbing the balance of the environment also has adverse effects on the health of the society. The detection, monitoring, and management of waste are one of the primary problems of the present era. the process of making things automatic is being exploited in almost all the major fields of life. Solid waste which is one of the sources and causes of environmental pollution has been defined under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act as any solid, semi-solid liquid, or contained gaseous materials discarded from industrial, commercial, mining, or agricultural operations and from community activities.
Project Objectives- The main objective of this project is to speed up the communication between containers and garbage collectors
- Tracing the location of the filled container.
- Produce reports on the fly so that no one can defend his bad progress
- Identification of vehicle/Team after collecting the waste
- Verification of the container after cleaning
- Send notification to the head if the container is still full after an undefined time
Making Alert in case of 2-3 hours of the 1st notification if the container is still full

In this Modern Era, the solid waste management system is manual due to which contains a lot of problems in proper management while collecting solid waste. On the other hand, the existing system has human involvement due to which the system is inefficient and not reliable. These problems are increasing parallel to each other so these must be addressed in parallel to completely overcome this kind of problem. If we are able to do this, we can:
- Overcome the problems of proper management.
- Find the best time to collect the garbage.
- Utilize the human resources.
- Notify the management about events.
- Save fuel consumption of the garbage trucks.
- Send people queries directly to the controlling heads.
As the project consists of two main operational units i.e. Training model to classify the filled and empty container and sending the reports and notifications to the end-users. So, based on this we have divided our whole project into two major milestones:
- The first milestone is to complete the training model. This milestone is further divided into small objectives which will be addressed from time to time. The first one is to find the best dataset or maybe to prepare a dataset keeping the Pakistan situation of full or empty containers. After that, we have to find the best model that can mimic a brain that knows when a container is full/empty.
Our focus is to complete this module before the end of the 7th semester, so we have roughly 3 months for it.
- The second milestone is to complete the notification and report module. This is the part that needs a good understanding of the situation because it contains the decision part where we will take the steps to make a decision that will notify the garbage collector. At the same time, we will work on reports to keep the record. The deployment part also falls into this category.
Our focus is to complete this module at the start of next semester (8th Semester).
