Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject SummaryIn this project we present a system to monitor the health and location of soldiers in a battlefield. It is important to monitor and communicate with the soldiers in an active battlefield, where help can be provided and decisions for their safety can be implemented. In time critical situations, the proposed system can provide real time response and assistance in order to avoid casualties and errors due to delays. In case of critical situations, the system assists in providing help to the soldiers in a battlefield, such as first aid, food, weapons, supplies, and command/instructions. In an event of attack from the opponents, the location information can be used to inform the soldiers about the threats caused by the enemies. The location tracking can be used to assist the soldiers in navigation and reaching to the desired targets in the warzone.
Project ObjectivesIn the absence of the location information of the soldiers, it is difficult to provide assistance and strategic information in real-time. In addition, the general health parameters are not always known to the command and control center, which results in inappropriate user of resources during the war. The objective of this project is to get a clear and accurate picture on the health and location of the soldiers in a warzone. In addition, the system must be capable to provide communications services with the personal in the battlefield. The use of this system shall increase the strategic position in the warzone, which results in saving lives of soldiers and efficient use of weapons.
Project Implementation MethodThe implementation is divided in to three parts. The first part deals with the equipment and circuits related to the soldiers. The state of the art technology in wearable devices is deployed on soldiers. The objective of these devices is to gather all the information pertaining to the health of the soldier and provides communications abilities. The wearable devise user different sensors to collect and aggregate data that needs to be transmitted to the central authority. The typical set of sensors used on the soldiers includes biomedical, heartbeat, temperature, blood pressure, motion, saturation, location, bomb/mines detector, etc. The next important functionality that is required is the ability to securely communication to the command and control center. It is important to ensure a secure connection in direct or multichip communication network models. In order to analyze the warzone situation, all the data received from the personal is aggregated and processed to be displayed on a dashboard. The dashboard is capable to process the acquired information by using artificial intelligence techniques. The objective of the dashboard is to provide comprehensive information to high command in making critical decisions.
Benefits of the ProjectThe primary benefit of this project is to save lives of the soldiers in an active warzone. In addition, the communication capability ensures proper delivery of command for a particular situation and location. The command and control center benefits from this system in making intelligent and useful decision, which not only save lives, but ensures victory in a battlefield.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe deliverables included wearable devices for the soldiers, communication equipment carried by the soldiers, and a dashboard to be used by command and control officers.
