Project Summary

Automation systems are increasing in day to day life. The traditional food ordering system is entirely a manual process which involves waiters, pen and paper. The customer has to wait for waiters to take the order. New Technology and Mechanical engineering integration will make a fully automated restaurant in which customers select choice order and send to the server using tablet computer placed on table. Server will check and forward to kitchen where meals are prepared. Above the dining area is a space in which meal transferred to customers table from the kitchen by robotic trolley. The orders are distributed using a system of sensors and robotic trolley moving flawlessly to destination. Compartment with full of food will bring to table by a lift.The process of taking order and serving make it possible to serve quickly. After the customers leave the table, server collects the dishes and place them in container and call the robot to take it bake to washing area.

Project Objectives

The main objectives of the project are listed below:

  • Increase Customer's Comfort
  • Reduce mistakes made by waiters
  • Encouragement   to use modern system
  • Reduce   monthly cost to pay the employeaes.
  • Require minimum labor

Project Implementation Method

The proposed system consists of two main parts, Application and hardware communication.

  • Application will be designed like there’ll be three parallel options to sign i.e., customer , order taker and chef. By signing in customer we can order anything we want , by signing in order taker we can communicate to both customer and chef through messaging and by signing in chef we receive the message to cook the ordered meal.
  • In hardware communication sensor of destination table will be turned on to sense the position of trolley. After sensing the trolley IR sensor will turn on the food box lift motor and the meal will be delivered to the table.

Benefits of the Project

Smart Restaurant system is compared with earlier traditional methods such as Pen & Paper method and PDA-based system etc. This will remove the manual  process of food ordering and thus reduces the number of restaurant staffs saving cost of labor  to a great extent. The system allows customers to order food by touching on the digital module surface which is locally connected to the kitchen and the cashier with RF module. This implementation were developed to enhance quality of services as well as to enhance customers? dining experience. The proposed restaurant intensely enhances the speed and reliability of order fulfillment.  Taking the orders through digital touch screen avoid wastage of paper and also reduces the need of printing hard copy of menu card. A customer going into restaurant does not have to wait for the waiters to take the order. An order is deliver by the robotic vehicle without time wasting of the customer.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable will be a prototype of a Smart Robotic Trolly capable of deliver the food as soon as possible especially in peak hours using the latest RPLIDAR Technology of self-driving and collision avoidance vehicles/robots. Following is the detail of technologies used to produce the final deliverable.

  1. Android App Control (Bluetooth Device with Bluetooth Controlled Android App capable of performing more than 25 different operations including robot speed control).
  2. Self Assesment & Movement using Light Detection & Ranging Technology.
  3. High Performance Battery Efficient Device using the latest LIPO batteries with standby time of 72 Hours and Working time of 2.5 Hours.
