Smart Mirror
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummarySmart Mirror:
The world is a constantly evolving place and now more than ever its focal point has shifted to technological advancement, attributed to the development of smart machines.
The smart mirror is conceived to contribute to making the world yet smarter by targeting a versatile and broad range of industries, from advertisement and media to home automation.
A smart mirror is simply a mirror which has the same capabilities as a smart device e.g., an iPhone, a tablet etc but on a mirrored console as its interface. and can be used as an alternative to looking glasses, glass panels of buildings and skyscrapers etc.
Raspberry Pi being used as the implementation platform for the prototype presents the opportunity to not only produce greatly optimisable software-based hardware. But also, by integrating modern tools into this project, a variety of functionalities can be achieved which is diversified according to their respective application. One of such tools is Mycroft i.e., a programmable virtual assistant that in conjunction with several customs produced and personalised widgets and applications achieves targeted function.
Project ObjectivesObjectives:
1. Making the world a smarter place where a simple glass or a mirror can act more than just looking or seeing through
2. Learning to create software-based hardware for maximum optimization of a system
We are going to make a mirror to act as
- Entertainment / Multimedia purpose
- Home automation
- Virtual Assistance
- Smart Advertisement
- Create an active device rather than a passive one
- A more user-friendly UI system
- Be as power-efficient as possible
Collection of Literature:
Through the collection phase, literature has been collected on the viability of the respective project, market analysis, and previous research papers published.
Literature Review:
The collected literature was synchronised and Skimmed By sieving the important material out of it.
Preparation of Schemes / Model:
After going through the literature, and mapping the schematics of the project, used in deciding on the features and capabilities of the smart mirror.
Implementation of Schemes / Model:
After completion of the planning phase, apps were and are being developed that are specific to and compliment the proposed design of the Smart mirror.
Analysis & Simulation:
Many of the applications that have been tested or are still in the beta version are implemented on raspberry pi's OS i.e., Linux.
Result Formulation:
After the Analysis and Simulation, the results that will be compiled will be used to check if anything can be added or shall be subtracted from the project.
Final Write-up & FYP Report Submission:
This is the final phase but the documentation process is continued simultaneously throughout all the phases of the project. it will simply be complied with and cited at the end before submission.
Benefits of the ProjectAdvantages of Smart Mirror:
The advantage of a smart mirror is without needing to open apps it can display useful information. You simply look at your smart mirror and the information is there. Smart mirrors are digital displays behind the glass.
Smart mirror's main feature is to connect your phone via Bluetooth or WiFi. Voice Control lets you ask a question to your mirror or give commands. Customize mirror view according to personal need.
Through this display, you can typically get detailed information such as daily news, the date and time, weather forecasts, and traffic reports. It is easy to communicate with and user friendly.
