From the beginning, humans have been growing crops according to their needs. There are different types of farming depending on various factors like climate, soil, temperature, moisture and most importantly the need of the population. Through our proposed system we aim to develop a system that reduces the human interference by bringing automation to the process of farming. The smart irrigation system is an automated irrigation system that includes various sensors that collect information and send to the controller that forwards it to the pump and the application on the user’s cell phone so he can know about the state of fields Day by day, the field of electronics is blooming and have caused great impact on human beings. Our project “Smart Irrigation System” also has a huge scope for future development. The project can be extended to greenhouses where manual supervision is far and few in between. The principle can be extended to create fully automated gardens and farmlands. Combined with the principle of rain water harvesting, it could lead to huge water savings if applied in the right manner. In agricultural lands with severe shortage of rainfall, this model can be successfully applied to achieve great results with most types of soil.
To improve and stabilize the crop yields of farmers through the implementation of sustainable irrigation system that can analyze and monitor different parameters like moisture, humidity, temperature, pH of the soil and can detect intrusion in the fields.
In the proposed Irrigation system IoT is implemented, in this system all the information that are received from the sensors and the various parameters are given to the Arduino uno microcontroller as an analog input. A preset value of soil moisture sensor is fixed in microcontroller and for fencing. When it goes beyond the threshold value water is automatically irrigated to the crops and once the required amount of water is fulfilled it stops. The Microcontroller transmits that information on the internet through a network of IoT in the form of wifi module ESP8266 that is attached to it. This enhances automated irrigation as the water pump can be switched on or off through information given to the controller. This proposed Irrigation system is also be used to test the quality of the soil through the pH sensor attached to the controller. At the same time this system detects the unwanted intrusion the in the fields and notifies it to the user This approach is for the advancement of irrigation process by automatic method without manpower by measuring various parameters related to the field and thus improves irrigation.
The smart irrigation system helps in utilizing the water in beeter way by limiting the wastage of water and adjusts the watering system according to the seasonal conditions. It helps in the selection of the crops according to the quality of the soil and also prevents the destruction of crops through excesscive watering and animals
The final deliverable will be a prototype of a Smart irrigation system capable of measuring different parameters regarding soil and the environment through the sensors attached to it
