In this project we will design an system that will help the farmers to utilize the water in a controlled and intelligent manner. The system will collect the data using sensors and send it for further computation. The system will make decision using DSS. This will not only help us save water but it will also result in a better and health crop production which will ultimately improve our agriculture sector.

Project Objectives

Our main objective is to design a system which will help farmers to use water in a smart way. The first step will be to design a node for collecting real time sensor reading that will help in further computations in DSS. After that we will send that collected data wirelessly to the base station using a Wi Fi module. That data will be further sent to the web server. In contribution to this system we will also design an app that will help us to collect data from the web server.

Project Implementation Method

Many people have worked in the development of smart irrigation using different techniques but we think that it is still possible to improve such type of system. We will be going to use fuzzy logic method in order to improve smart irrigation system. Here we are going to use micro-controller, Raspberry Pi 3B+, for efficient processing; also it is very adjustable with
other peripheral devices like sensors and I/O devices. For collection of data we will use ds18b20 and soil moisture sensor. An Analog to Digital converter will be used to get a digital output from soil moisture sensor. For transmission of data from node to base station we will use NOD MCU 8266. Raspberry Pi will act as a base station from where the data will be sent to the web server. We will use Android studio to design the app that will retrieve the data from the web server and make it easily assessable.

Benefits of the Project

Putting ourselves on the shoes of farmers, we have noticed that the main causes are lack of technology awareness and the importance of water management for specific crops, thats why we thought of building and developing an DSS System linked with some sensors, which collects soil and weather information using different data sources, then make decisions for irrigation of crops, which will be very helpful to farmer The intelligent usage of water will also help us to overcome the problems caused by water crisis.  It will also results in a better and healthy crop production which will ultimately improve our agriculture sector. So it motivated us to introduce the method in which smart use of water will be implemented. Thats why we are going to develop Smart Irrigation System using Fuzzy Logics.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The basic unit of this project will be a node that will be a Node MCU. The nodes will be interfaced with the sensors to get the data from the soil for computaion. These nodes will communicate between themselve using ESP-Now protocol. The data will be send to the base station which consists of a Pi 3B+. For now we will do the computation on the base station but you can shift it to cloud if we have a heavy load i.e. 100s of nodes. The base station will send the data to internet from where an app will access the data and display it to the user. The app will display the data of each node indiviually.
