Project Area of Specialization Computer ScienceProject SummaryThere have been several advancements in technology and a lot of research has been done to help the people who are deaf and dumb. Aiding the cause, Deep learning, and computer vision can be used too to make an impact on this cause. This can be very helpful for the deaf and dumb people in communicating with others as knowing sign language is not something that is common to all, moreover, this can be extended to creating automatic editors, where the person can easily write by just their hand gestures. We’ll use the TensorFlow framework here. A model can be trained to recognize different gestures of sign language and translate them into English. This will help a lot of people in communicating and conversing with deaf and dumb people.
Project ObjectivesThe purpose of Sign Language Recognition (SLR) systems is to provide an efficient and accurate way to convert sign language into text or voice has aids for the hearing impaired for example or enable very young children to interact with computers (recognizing sign language), among others.
Project Implementation MethodThe users can create an account, users must be login to access the system, after signing in user can tap on the camera icon and show any sign in front of the camera, and after that camera detects the sign and shows the text which this sign says. This app development requires:
- Flutter
- Python IDE
- Android Studio
- Emulator
- Target people who are deaf or dumb.
- It enriches and enhances children's cognitive processes.
- Sign language helps increase intelligibility for children when the sign is combined with speech.
- Provide information of what other people who can’t speak want to say.
The system has been created using TensorFlow by using DL algorithms and flutter is used for UI. The developed system is able to detect Sign Language gestures in real-time, through the application’s camera user can input and show any gesture or sign, and that app transfer the sign into text.
