Project Summary

Traffic accidents kill a lot of people all around the world. The high number of deaths and injuries caused by road traffic accidents demonstrates the global crisis in road safety. In many cases, family members or emergency services are not notified promptly. This causes a delay in emergency service response, which might result in a person's death or serious harm. The goal of this project is to shorten emergency response times in circumstances such as traffic accidents. By leveraging a smartphone's integrated sensors to identify vehicular accidents, notify them to the nearest available emergency responder, and give real-time location tracking for them

Project Objectives

The overall objective is to develop an automated Accident Detection system to perform the following tasks:

  • To get notified when someone’s meet an accident.
  •  To assist Rescue teams with accidents.
  • Inform the relatives and nearby rescue service by giving the location of the accident spot.
  • To help save the life of a person or persons and give them proper first aid on time.
  • To provide a quick and accurate response to enhance the performance of working of Rescue Service.

Project Implementation Method

The overall method is to develop an automated Accident Detection system to perform the following tasks:

  • The project's goal is to create an accident detection system that can detect accidents quickly and warn rescuers.
  •  When an accident occurs, the ESP-32 is a main control unit that aids in relaying messages to other devices in the system.
  • The GSM module's receiving pin and the GPS module's transmitting pin are utilized to communicate.
  • The GPS module will locate the vehicle, and the information will be retrieved by the receiver via coordinates. The received data will be relayed to ESP-32, and the GSM module will send an alert to the rescue squad and relatives.
  • The GSM module is used to send recorded calls to the rescue squad and relatives.
  • The acceleration sensor is used to determine the speed of the vehicle that is used to inform the rescue squad and relative in case of an accident occurs.
  • The mobile application is used to get a notification and the location of the accident.

Benefits of the Project

The advantages of the proposed idea are given below:-

  • Accidents are reported to relatives and medical units.
  • It has a simple design and can be connected to another system.
  • The user will find it simple to utilize.
  • To secure the driver in a car or motor vehicle, this device might be employed.
  • If deployed on a bigger scale, it might be utilized by the government's health department to assess the number of accidents.
  • We can utilize this technique for traffic estimation with few modifications.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

NodeMCU ESP32

The NodeMCU ESP32 board (in some cases also known as ESP32-DevkitC) is fully supported by ESPHome.ESP32 is a series of low-cost, low-power systems on a chip microcontroller with integrated Wifi and dual-mode Bluetooth.

NEO-6M GPS Module

The u-Blox NEO-6M GPS engine on these modules is quite a good one, and it also has a high sensitivity for indoor applications. Furthermore, there’s one MS621FE-compatible rechargeable battery for backup and EEPROM for storing configuration settings. The module works well with a DC input in the 3.3- to 5-V range

ADXL345 module

The ADXL345 is a small, thin, low-power, 3-axis accelerometer with a high resolution (13-bit) measurement at up to ±16g. Digital output data is formatted as a 16-bit two's complement and is accessible through either an SPI or I2C digital interface.

The ADXL345 is well suited for mobile device applications. It measures the static acceleration of gravity in tilt-sensing applications, as well as dynamic acceleration resulting from motion or shock. Its high resolution (4 mg/LSB) enables the measurement of inclination changes less than 1.0°.

 Activity and inactivity sensing detect the presence or lack of motion and if the acceleration on any axis exceeds a user-set level. Tap sensing detects single and double taps. Free-fall sensing detects if the device is falling. These functions can be mapped to one of two interrupt output pins. An integrated, patent-pending 32-level first-in, first-out (FIFO) buffer can be used to store data to minimize host processor intervention.

GSM SIM800L

the heart of the module is a SIM800L GSM cellular chip from SimCom. The operating voltage of the chip is from 3.4V to 4.4V, which makes it an ideal candidate for a direct LiPo battery supply. This makes it a good choice for embedding into projects without a lot of space.

the necessary data pins of the SIM800L GSM chip are broken out to 0.1? pitch headers. This includes pins required for communication with a microcontroller over UART. The module supports baud rates from   1200bps to 115200bps  with Auto-Baud detection.

The module needs an external antenna to connect to a network. The module usually comes with a Helical Antenna and solders directly to the NET pin on PCB. The board also has a U.FL connector facility in case you want to keep the antenna away from the board.

There’s a SIM socket on the back! Any activated, 2G micro SIM card would work perfectly. The correct direction for inserting a SIM card is normally engraved on the surface of the SIM socket.
