Remotely Operated Water Surface Cleaner
Many people dump their plastic waste in the lakes and dams. As plastic choking our planet. Mostly tourist and people living near these areas throw plastic. Waste is poisoning and killing marine species. Floating Vessel needed to clean this waste. We propose a method that cannot only clean the lakes, rivers and dams but also environmental friendly. We built a robot that is wirelessly operated, can collect plastic as long as on the surface of water. Our robot can be controlled through wirelessly and have camera on board. Our robot have hybrid design, can be charged through solar place on top of robot. As growing population is going to be big problem in coming years more and more waste dump into the lakes and rivers, so a sustainable solution is needed to tackle this problem.
Our main objectives are 3:
(i) Built a robot that clean lakes, dams and rivers in a cost effective way.
(ii) Can be controlled easily through Wireless transmission.
(iii) Capable of sending live video transmission with minimum latency.
By achieving above 3 objectives we can decrease the growing problem of waste in our rivers and lakes.
We divide our project into three phases:
(i)Body
(ii)Electrical design and communications
(iii)Remote
(i)Body:
First we are going to built body of our robot. The bottom part of our vehicle is going to be flat to help the vehicle float on surface of water.
(ii)Electrical design and communications:
After building body we are going to implement electrical design like adding controller to control the motors and communication system to receive commands, powering the robot with battery, balance the robot by dividing weight equally. Adding the camera module for live video transmission.
(iii)Remote:
At the end we going to build a small remote which can be easily held by a person and control the whole robot. Our vehicle can be control by anyone and does not need any special training.
For several years the research industry has benefited from the works of remotely operated vehicles. We are spending more on space tech and less on marine sciences. More research is needed for cheap and robust marine technologies. Our robot is environmental friendly have positive impact on the environment. By adding a small solution to a big problem, increase the awareness among the people so they can think about our polluted rivers, lakes and dams. Building the environmental friendly projects not only excite the people but also help the whole industry and innovating technologies come along the way.
(i)Body
We are using acrylic material to build our body. Acrylic material are light weight as carbon fiber, have similar durability as carbon fiber and above all of this is cheaper than carbon fiber. To waterproof the whole vehicle we are using silicon on every corner and joint.
Our body dimensions are:
L x W x H= (30 x 18 x 8) inch
(ii)Electrical design and communications
We are using 2 Arduino Uno R3. One at robot end and other at user end. Adding 2 motors to push the vehicle in any direction on surface of water. Our motors have helical gears to get more torque. To drive the motors we are using L298n motor driver because Arduino cannot support high current.
For communication, we are using hc-12 transmission module to send and receive directional commands. Hc-12 module are based of RF technology and have range up to 1.8km. Hc-12 module is cheap and reliable as compare to other RF modules. To send and receive video we are using camera and TS5823 transmission module and UVC OTG android receiver have range up to 3km.
