Remote health monitoring system based on IOT
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThis project aims to design and develop and IoT based Health Monitoring System which monitors health features of a remote user. The statistics to be monitored are oxygen saturation levels, temperature. Sensors will be used for tracking user’s vitals and data will be processed using a microcontroller. By the use of internet, in case of an emergency, a signal would be sent to the desired receiver showing the numeric representation of vitals so proper action could be taken. Information will also be stored online for viewing later. Such a scheme is useful for monitoring health of the elderly, distinct users or the cases when hospitals are over burdened by patients.
Project ObjectivesImplementation of Hardware/Software Integrated system for remote health monitoring through the following stages
- UnderstandingIOT and identification of appropriate hardware
- Detecting vitals using sensors
- Development of algorithm for processing, displaying and transmission of data.
- Data displaying on the internet
The project is comprised of three main parts. The first part is detection of patient’s vitals using sensors, second for sending data to cloud storage and the last part was providing the detected data for remote viewing. Remote viewing of the data enables a doctor. The proposed architecture will collect the sensor data through Arduino microcontroller and relay it to the cloud where it is processed and analyzed for remote viewing. Feedback actions based on the analyzed data can be sent back to the doctor or guardian r guardian to monitor a patient’s health progress away from hospital premises.
Benefits of the ProjectThe Internet of Things (IoT) concepts have been widely used to interconnect the available medical resources and offer smart, reliable, and effective healthcare service to the patients. Health monitoring for active and assisted living is one of the paradigms that can use the IoT advantages to improve the patient’s lifestyle. The aim of the project was to come up with a Remote Health Monitoring System that can be made with locally available sensors with a view to making it affordable if it were to be mass produced.
