Power Transmission through Solar Cell (Photovoltaic phenomenon) for brushless machines
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryElectric machines play an important role in technology and human life. It seems that that life is difficult without machines. Firstly, invented machines were very simple. With passage of time it got complex and became more challenging like maintenance, safety, efficiency, reliability and cost.
This FYP is based on a wireless power transmission using a photo voltaic phenomenon for the application of brushless, wound rotor machines. The stationary light source (artificial/natural) can be used for wireless power transmission between stator and rotor, so that there is no need to use the brushes and slip-rings. Moreover, wide speed operation can be achieved by controlling the intensity of light.
Project ObjectivesThe objective of this FYP are enlisted below.
- Simulation of Brushless wound rotor synchronous machine
- INNER ROTOR Model (for Synchronous motors and generators)
- Outer Rotor Model (for Wind turbine)
- Simulation of PV Cell at rotating condition.
- Hardware Design: Excitation of rotor winding through PV cell
In this project we are ambitious to design brushless motor using high efficiency PV cell to transmit wireless power for rotor excitation. In inner rotor model we will install PV cells on rotor and here we also use a high intensity LEDs on stator side to provide sufficient light energy on rotor PV cell.
For outer model we will design and implement the suitable PV cell as a Wind turbine blades and the solar energy will be used for turbine rotor excitation. So there will be no need other excitation source in sunny days.
In above both model we are basically implementing the transmission of wireless power in rotating condition.
Firstly, we will simulate these models in FEA(finite element analysis) software to predict their behavior in real time.
Benefits of the ProjectBenefits of this project are enlisted below
- Replacement of Brushes and Slip Rings from wound rotor machines.
- Environment friendly, no harmful emissions
- low maintenance cost
- renewable energy related
- low cost as compared to permanent magnet
- no need of rectifying circuit on rotor
The Simulation Analysis will be performed for inner and outer rotor topologies for 1 KW machine. The Simulation results will predict the output from the rotating PV cells.
The Hardware will be implemented for the 1 KW machine and the results will be compared with the simulated results
