Project Title

Pepper Robot As a Receptionist

Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject Summary

Robots have brought a great revolution to human life. In this era, they are not only confined to industry but they have covered vast aspects of human life. They are now in hospitals as caretakers or nurses, in restaurants as receptionists or waiters, in the industry as a routine workers and a variety of other applications too. The increasing popularity of humanoid robots, eventually lead to their incorporation into all of our daily lives. Because these robots can move, act, and communicate like humans. They are ultimately used to replace humans in certain minimal tasks and dangerous situations. In this project, we are going to use Pepper robot as a receptionist at Sukkur IBA University. Our goal is to implement the Humanoid Robot Pepper as a receptionist at Sukkur IBA University.

Project Objectives

Aims of Project

The aim of this project is to make a robot receptionist using humanoid Pepper robot at Sukkur IBA University.

Objectives of the Project

Project Implementation Method

The main advantage of Pepper is a software platform that supports the creation of different applications and behaviors that fit different domains. Currently, more than 10,000 units have been sold and are used in various services (healthcare, supermarkets, train stations, cafes) around the world. As a service robot. Pepper offers important assets such as ease of use, friendly shape and design, autonomy, high degree of freedom, and adaptability to all services.

Pepper welcomes visitors and provides information about universities, research centers, sports activities and more. Pepper operates in two modes: free movement mode and engagement mode. Freedom of movement is activated when Pepper is not in conversation. Pepper moves through the reception area and interacts with its surroundings. When a visitor notices or starts talking to Pepper, Pepper activates engagement mode and begins a conversation about the university. There are three categories of visitors: students, employees, and outside visitors. For each of them, we define a specific set of conversations and actions that target their interests and provide information about their needs.

Benefits of the Project

Robots that are more social and capable of achieving broader social acceptance are needed more than ever. The shape, size, appearance, behavior, and intelligence of such social robots should all be customized and designed with the human-centered environment in mind.

Pepper can offer more personalized experience, entertainment, and can be for information and services.
