Mechanical Transport Automation System
Mechanical Transport Automation system (MTAS) is a web-based automation system for managing and automating the daily transport activities in an Mechanical Transport (MT) park. It helps the MT officer & the MT Staff monitor all the vehicle activity.
MTAS can detect the incoming vehicle using RFID chips & RFID readers and verify whether it’s registered in MT database. It can also save all vehicle records including their last maintenance date, their refuel date, air pressures etc. The system can provide a real time view of the incoming and outgoing vehicles on the system using 2 HD cameras. It can save all the logs of activities in the database. Our system is connected to a motorized barrier which opens upon successful verification of the moving vehicle activity.
The system also presents all the logs, notifications, camera view and recent activities on the android app. The MT officer can allow guest vehicles inside the MT Park. IT can also show alerts if any vehicle is out of time or is leaving the gate without the prior entry in the database. Another important factor is the record keeping of vehicle Maintenance.
The system is hosted on a cloud based architecture to which an android app is also linked for real time alerts. The android app is only available to MT officer.
Mechanical Transport Automation System is a project with the sole goal to automate the traditional and old transportation system of MCS (Military College of Signals) into a new, modern-day and advanced transportation management system that will cope up with the security and new technology. This system will reduce the workload from lower end i.e. MTO clerk etc. to higher end i.e. MTO (Mechanical Transport Officer). The system will use the technology of latest RFID integrated with a web-based application.
MTAS will be a Web Based Application along with an Android Application that will maintain the Record of Mechanical Trasnsport in MCS. It will use the RFID-Tag System to keep the security check on vehicles within and outside the premises of MCS. It will also be able to manage the schedule of military vehicles.
Further Vehicle Scanning System can be merged into this system to enhance the security.

The system will be architecture mainly in four fundamental modules “Users”, “Core system”, “Administration”, and the “database”. It will further be having sub modules as shown in the above diagram. The sub modules of the diagram are further elaborated as below.
Users of the MTAS system who accesses the Mobile app and then chooses functionality according to the requirement. Users consist of concerned staff or any MTO. MTO interacts with the mobile app that further accesses the services provided by the app.
Mobile app is the platform to access the system and having different functionalities like scheduling, viewing vehicle status, changing schedule.
It consists of all the modules that will be responsible for all the processes communication between web and android modules.
These are the functionalities provided by the MTAS. The services for different kind of users are different. As for a staff the services provided by the MTAS are entering vehicle’s data, verifying vehicle’s data. But more privileges are for system administrators i.e. MTO.
Web interface provides services to the administrative staff and Concerned Staff. Web interface provides a platform to handle the schedule data and deal with backend processing related to vehicle data management etc. Web user interface is dependent upon the services that are further handled by database handler which in turn interacts with the actual database where all the data about vehicles stores.
System Administration interacts with the web user interface for managing and dealing with the whole functionality of the system by handling all the provided services by MTAS.
Database handler provides a connection between the services (that are displayed on the web interface and mobile app) and the databases where all the data regarding provided services is stored. Database hander basically handles inputs and outputs of some action that needs database access. It’s a gateway to the actual databases.
A database stores all the data about the mobile application, web interface, vehicle’s records, scheduling processes and all the related processing happens there.
Hardware Implementation
System is using the following components integrated with the software developed to make a complete MTAS system.
The main benifit of the project is to develop a mobile and web-based system to support, enable and facilitate various activities with regard to managing the schedule of vehicles of MCS (Military College of Signals) , detecting the vehicle type and destination based on data stored in the database, notifying the current state of vehicles to the MTO( Mechanical Transport Officer) and dealing with the guest-entry of vehicles. MTAS would bring into collaboration the Security and Mechanical Transport Departments of MCS. This system will particularly help MCS to automate and modernize the current traditional Mechanical Transport System and will lessen the manual burden on the staff. Moreover, it will also enhance the security of MCS to a modernized and automated dimension.
Currently, when a vehicle enters or leaves MCS, all the record is made on a register manually by the staff himself. Along with this, an active state of the MCS personal vehicles is not known to the MTO all the time. To know the state of the vehicles, the MTO has to ask the staff to check the register and let him know. The role of MTAS comes into play here when it will detect and record vehicle data in the database. It will detect the vehicle type and destination based on data stored in the database. MTAS will also manage the schedule of MCS vehicles. Non-MCS vehicles will be dealt as a guest entry. MTO will also get a notification over the android application regarding the departure or arrival of the vehicle including the recent activities. The Vehicle maintainance alerts will also be recieved by the Mechanical Transport Officer.
