This project focuses on the development of home automation system based on internet of things (IOT) which allows the user to automate all the devices and appliances of home and merge them to provide seamless control over every side of their home. The data can be used to predict the u thser's behaviour custom with the development of a machine learning algorithm, and then the predicted results can be employed to enhance the intelligence of a smart home system
The main objective of this project is to develope a Home Automation System using an Arduino board with
being remotely controlled by any Android OS smart phone. as technology is advancing so houses are aslo getting smarter. Modern houses are gradually shifting from conventional switches to centralized control system, involving remote controlled switches.Presently, conventional wall switches located at different part of the house makes it difficult for the user to go near them to operate. Even more it bcomes more difficult for the elderly or physically handicap people to do so. Remote control home automation provides a most modern solution by the use of smart phone.
ESP8266 is a wifi chip that provides Transfer Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP). There are different ESP8266 modules available in the market. In this project we are using the first model. It has 6 pins and operates on 3.3v. ESP8266 was then connected to the mobile hotspot. Arduino is development boards build around ATmega 328P. Arduino is perfect for this project as it provides much pins to interface relay module,16×2 LCD and ESP8266 wifi module. Relay is used to switch on and off higher voltages devices by using low dc voltages such as signal from Arduino digital pin. In this project we used 4 channel relay module it is easy to interface with Arduino instead of connecting each relay separately. It can bears up to 250VAC and 10 amps of current.
16X2 LCD: 16×2 LCD is used to display 16 characters in two lines. It is easy to interface with Arduino due to its available library. In this project this LCD is used to display the status of the appliances whether it is on or off.
Firstly, Home Automation will save time in daily recursive activities like turning of lights , geysers and other home appliances. You don't need to think about whether the lights are turned off or did geyser or AC turned off or not while you are in office. You can sit anywhere in the globe access your home away from home.
Secondly, security : You can secure your home while you are away from home. There are devices which keep monitoring you home and notify you when any incident occurs. The notification can be a simple SMS or a voice call which can alert and take necessary action. Do remember these device run on Batteries also. So need not worry about even when electricity is turned off.
Thirdly, Convenience: We don't need to manually go-to each and every room to see if any light or fan is switched on and turn off , instead you can On/ off all lights in a room or entire home. You will have the convenience of controlling devices through smart phone or tablet.
Safety: There at situation arise when parents have to leave outstation and kids stay alone at home , in this scenario Automation helps in securing kids safety . One can install surveillance cameras and keep monitoring through mobile from anywhere in the globe. Also there are devices which won't allow to unlock the main door from outside once it is locked from inside. Also you can place few Sensors out side which can turn on light automatically in the night if some one try to intrude into your home. There are many more benefits from Home Automation
