IOT Based Water Quality Monitoring And Management System
The proposed system will demonstrate the successful implementation of an internet-based approach to monitor different parameter like PH, turbidty, conductivity, level and flow of water and managing water on a real-time basis. For this some sensors are used. The collected data from the all the sensors are used for analysis purpose for better solution of water problems. The data is sends to the web page via Wi-Fi module. A flow sensor for measuring of quantity supplied, eliminating the drawbacks of trditional water quality monitoring and management systems. So, this application will be the best challenger in real time monitoring & management system and use to solve all the water related problems.
When the system will start then the pH, conductivity, turbidity and level of water will be checked. If the all like pH, conductivity, turbidity and level of water are in safe range then the water will be supplied to the tanks and valves will be open. If the any of them like pH, conductivity, turbidity and level of water are not in safe range then the water will not be supplied to the tanks and valves will remain closed. During distribution of water rate of flow is measured so that equal distribution is done. This whole data is sent from Wi-Fi to Email and the Web page so that system can be accessed remotely from a computer. The flow of distribution and quality of water both will be monitored from the web page which can be displayed anywhere using the internet.
The real-time IOT base water quality monitoring and management system will benefit the both water resources management department and the public. The system can monitor water quality automatically and does not require people on duty. The proposed system has low complexity and high performance. The system has good flexibility. Only by replacing the corresponding sensors and changing the relevant software programs, this system can be used to monitor other water quality parameters.
The components listed below under the section modular based approach are briefly discussed. Their significance is also taken into consideration.
Power supply
In this system, we need a power supply of 3.3V for Arduino board. Power Supply of 5V for pH, Conductivity sensor, the Water level sensor/ ultrasonic sensor, Water flow sensor and Wi-fi. 12V for water solenoid valve.
Arduino Uno
The Arduino Uno is used as a microcontroller in this system, it has 14 digital input/output pins of which we are using 6 pins for connecting sensors.
Wi-Fi module:
After all the parameters are measured and checked the information to be sent online so that it can be monitored remotely. For this purpose, wi-fi module is used. It helps us make this system real time. The ESP8266 Wi-Fi Module is a self-contained SOC with integrated TCP/IP protocol stack that can give any microcontroller access to your Wi-Fi network.
Turbidity sensor
Turbidity is a measure of the cloudiness of water. Turbidity has indicated the degree at which the water loses its transparency. It is considered as a good measure of the quality of water. Turbidity blocks out the light needed by submerged aquatic vegetation. It also can raise surface water temperatures above normal because suspended particles near the surface facilitate the absorption of heat from sunlight.
Conductivity
Electrical conductivity is also an indicator of water quality. It measures free chlorine without sample pretreatment. It does not have messy and expensive reagents needed. Conductivity data can detect contaminants, determine the concentration of solutions and determine the purity of water. It is compact in size. Conductivity sensor measures conductivity by AC voltage applied to nickel electrodes. These electrodes are placed in a water sample and reading is obtained.
Water flow sensor
For continues, water flow rate measurement YF-S201 is used. Connections required for this flow rate sensor with respect to Arduino's is very minimal. It has operating temperature range of -25°C - 80°C which is wide enough for our application to operate successfully.
Water Level Sensor
Water level sensor is designed for detecting water level in reservoir and tanks. This is widely used in sensing the water leakage, water level and the rainfall.
Water controlling valve
A solenoid valve is used as a water controlling valve, it is a simple electromagnetic device that converts electrical energy directly into linear mechanical motion. A solenoid valve is the combination of a mechanical valve and basic solenoid.
