The IOT based smart home automation system using raspberry provides an efficient, reliable and secure environment for users to control and monitor their homes and electrically operated devices. Sensors and other smart devices used in smart home automation system sense physical occurrences and translate them into the stream of a stream of data, maximizes safety, security, comfort, convenience, and energy-saving. The proposed design, architecture, and prototype of the system present a basic level approach to appliance control and remote monitoring of the home automated system. Raspberry Pi and its open source software programmatically control many devices in a building in such a way that user can operate these devices on his individual need. The raspberry pi expanded with other modules and independent power supply for the monitoring of temperature, humidity, fire and poisonous gases on smartphones via an application

Project Objectives
  1. To design a secure IOT Based Network using Raspberry Pi module.
  2. To set up an interface as a communication medium between different home devices and user.
  3. To test sensors with different modules in different scenarios. 
Project Implementation Method

The smart home automation system using a raspberry pi with IOT (Internet of Things) is more reliable and secure than other home automation systems. This is made by using NodeMCU, Arduino Uno and Raspberry Pi 3. It allows you to make your Home to a Smart Home. This system sends you a variety of like Temperature, Humidity & Gas Quality inside your home. It sends you a notification whenever it detects any sort of Motion inside and tells you when you need to Water your Plants. You can also control your appliances through Blynk application in your Smartphones. The system also allows true Mood Lighting. Raspberry Pi is also equipped with a tiny little Camera that sends you to live feed. This camera also uses Artificial Intelligence to detect humans in its sight and sends you their Pictures via email. It also has a Rfid Door Locking System. In Rfid Door locking system will verify the fingerprints of registered people, after verifying Arduino Uno opens the door via rotating the servo motor.

Benefits of the Project

One of the key benefits of our project is that it provides security for home or businesses using a smart camera that sends email using Raspberry Pi whenever it detects a person and one can either locally or remotely monitor using an application installed on the phone.One can also monitor the temperature, humidity and the gas quality of their home. People in Pakistan face electricity shortage and normally use Lead-acid batteries for their power backup. Lead acid batteries release toxic gases into the air. If the place is not properly ventilated It would be fatal for any human being. In such a scenario, the gas quality sensor will alert the responsible person.If a fire starts in a place this IOT project would trigger a call to the emergency fire brigade. Increasing the chances of protection of human life and property.Occupied by different chores, we human beings have become very busy with our lives. We often tend to forget to water our plants. Our IOT based project will remind you when you need to water the plants. RFID door locking system enables the businesses to track their employees' movements and record it in their system. This also provides an ease of use as one does not need to make physical contact with the reader.In a nutshell, this system would provide efficient resource utilization and reduced human efforts. This project is cost effective and will also increase productivity.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The proposed project will work on the technique of IoT (Internet of Things). In this project, IoT is used for interfacing different modules and sensors to computers and smartphones. This technique witnesses the dawn of a new era of Internet of Things (IoT). IoT refers to the networked interconnection of everyday objects, which are often equipped with ubiquitous intelligence. IoT will increase the variety of internet by networking different objects through communication through techniques. Nowadays IoT has gained attention by researchers by its vast level of applications. In the current state of the art, we have used the raspberry pi module which is light in weight, small in size and cheap. This is the reason the raspberry pi is used in a smart home automation project, it can easily be mounted inside an electrical box. It contains a processor, graphics chip, a program memory (RAM- Random-Access Memory) and various interfaces and connectors for external devices. It is cheap, powerful and it does not consume a lot of power.
