Project ObjectivesThe main objective of our present work is to provide a reliable, cost effective, low power solution for a blind people which would help them to move almost like any other normal pedestrian. The cost of this system makes it affordable for the majority of the society which in turn an effective device for them to spend on, just for once and assures wonderful travel guidance for them.
Project Implementation MethodThis device includes a pair of glasses and an obstacle detection module fitted in it in the center, a processing unit, an output device i.e. a object detector and a power supply. The Obstacle detection module and the output device is connected to the processing unit. The power supply is used to supply power to the central processing unit. The obstacle detection module basically consists of a ultrasonic sensor, processing unit consist of a control module and the output unit consists of a voice controller . The control unit controls the ultrasonic sensors and get the information of the obstacle present in front of the man and processes the information and sends the output
through the buzzer accordingly. These Ultrasonic Smart Glasses for Blind people is a portable device, easy to use, light weight, user friendly and cheap in price. These glasses could easily guide the blind people and help them avoid obstacle. Third eye for blind people that recognizes object for them to save them from accidents. In this protocol whenever a object arises Infront of them the object detector will help them to identify the object.
Blind mobility is one of the major challenges encountered by visually impaired persons in their daily lives. Their life and activities are greatly restricted by loss of eyesight. They normally travel using blind navigation system or by their accumulated memories in their long-term exploration. The main objective of the present work is to develop a low cost, reliable, portable, user friendly, low power and robust solution for smooth navigation. This (Smart Glasses for Blind People), as meant are the glasses are for visually impaired people. It has an in-built sensor in it which spreads ultrasonic waves in the direction the person is going by scanning at most 5-6 meters. As soon as the obstacle is detected, the sensor detects it and sends it to the device which generates an automated voice in the earphone connected to the person's ear. By which it will become very easy for the person to know what is in front of him and he will be save from getting harm from any sort of danger Infront of him.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableTo meet the project goal and developed the “Smart Glasses” as it should be read and translate the text properly. The team members faced many new technical aspects and learn a new concept that has not been taught before in college courses. The team learned a new programing language which is python in order to code each component to do its functionality correctly. Also, the team worked on new components such as Ultrasonic sensors, RFID sensors, and webcam. However, these components have some limitations due to manufacturing technology. RFID sensors can only detect very small distance which is 3 cm so the user should be very close to it. Also, the image quality needs to be considered so the team chose to capture the images by webcam at 40-150 cm distance. As a result of that the team program the Ultrasonic sensors to sense the distance within the same range that can provide high-quality images.
